Finally the men left. My body was getting poked and scratched consistently by the hay and my bum was starting to fall asleep from the hard wood.
Quickly on my hands and knees I crawled to the ladder and peered my head through the hole. Just to make sure no one was there.
Climbing quickly down the sliver infested ladder and managing to get little to no splinters I ran towards Bruno. I threw on his halter and jumped on in one swift fluent motion.
I kicked him towards the big opening of barn where we emerged to see that it was early evening, my favorite time of day.
The sun was slowly starting to set casting a golden glow on everything it could catch it's light on, turning the summer colors more vibrant.
I trotted Bruno around the barn where there was a large pasture that went as far as the three acre away tree-lines. It was dotted with horses and cattle grazing vigorously next to each other.
I cued him into a lope and steered us so we followed the fence line all the way to the trees at the far end of the pasture. Believe it or not Bruno made the trip very difficult because he kept trying to steer towards the fence to try and play with the other horses and cattle. Luckily he listened to my bare feet and kept on his path. I soon saw an odd opening in in the trees and decided to quickly turn my horse down the crooked path. It seemed only Three feet wide, that was just big enough for us to go through it. The path soon had so many twists and turns that I finally had to pull Bruno up to a walk just so I could figure out where the next bend was.
I looked up into the darkening sky, I didn't realize how late it had gotten, but my curiosity got the best of me so I kept going.
After turning what seems like our 100th bend the forest abruptly stopped and opened up to a huge meadow. Tall and full pine trees made a large circle surrounding me.
It was weird, immediately when I walked through the trees I felt safer, probably because how secluded the area was and felt.
I slid off Bruno's back onto the lush green grass. Occasional white daisy's littered the ground like little white snow clumps.
I took of Bruno's lead and he sprinted away from me and bucked happily to be outside. I ran after him laughing with delight at his free spiritness.
Unfortunately the big pants I wore made me trip a couple of times only making me laugh more and almost falling down in the process.
Then I heard a noise, a terrible noise that I thought I'd never hear again.
"I told you I'd come back beautiful."
It was him.
