Cold, cloudy and lonely. That was the weather in New York upon our arrival, at the airport, and so were my thoughts. We got in a car waiting for us at the exit that would take us to my Uncle's house.

When we reached the black wrought iron gates, I had to catch my breath in astonishment. It was beautiful. The gates opened when the guard saw Uncle William.

As we proceeded down the drive way, I saw the long ever green orchards. When we reached the front of the house, one of the staff members opened the doors of the car. I got out and looked around. The main entrance door was made of wood with sophisticated carvings in it.

Uncle Will put his hand on my back and ushered me forward inside the house.
Creamy marble covered the floor, a grand staircase, several doors which presumably led to other parts of the mansion. Chandeliers of the most elegant kind hung above me. Portraits were placed on several walls along with antiques. I recognised several of them due to my old love for Art and History. I kept it in mind to ask Uncle Will about them another time.

We soon entered a room which Uncle Will announced was the lounge. I spotted a woman sitting on an armchair who immediately stood up when she saw us. She came forward with a big smile and engulfed me in in a surprising hug.

"Oh you're finally here!"

Uncle Will laughed at her reaction.

"Ah yes she is. Ella this is my wife, Diana."

When she let go of me, I saw her clearly. She had the kindest grey blue eyes and black hair which was neatly kept in a bun.

"It's a pleasure to meet you." I said.

"It's absolutely wonderful to finally meet you  as well Arabella."

"Please call me Ella."

"Of course, Ella."

She turned around to Uncle Will and gave him a peck on the lips.

"How was the flight? Not too tiring I hope because dinner is almost ready."

"It wasn't too bad. But first please show Ella her room so she can get adjusted and freshen up."

"Why not? Ella darling, please follow me."

She went out the room. After giving my Uncle a quick glance, I followed her out.

While we were walking, Diana showed me around. The amount of rooms she mentioned on just one part of the house was hard to remember. There was a library, study, billiards room, four bedrooms etc.

"Isn't this house too big for just two people?"

I hadn't realised I spoke my thoughts out too loud.

Diana laughed at my question.

"Yes it would be but it's not just us two. There's Daniel as well. William's son from his first wife."

I felt awfully confused and curious and Diana seemed to have seen that from my obvious expression.

"I am William's second wife. His first wife died while giving birth to Daniel. Will married me when Daniel was five and I was the only mother figure he got so I pretty much am his mother."

"And where is Daniel?"

"Oh he's gone to England for business reasons. Your uncle sent him but he will be back tomorrow. I can't wait for the both of you to meet."

I was still thinking about the small piece of information Diana just gave me and it only quipped up more questions. But I'll ask them some other time.
