Chapter 8: Orientation

Orientation starts and I'm already bored. The other groups finally caught up to us and joined us for the speech of starting a new life, working hard, blah, blah, blah. Thankfully the speech didn't last long and we moved on to a somewhat more interesting topic, like our rooms and training.

The head pack warrior, whose name has evaded me but for my sake I'll call him Tulip because he smells like that, explained "For 7 years you will be in training. The roommates you are assigned with will be with you permanently because they will be your team and teams stick together. So you best learn to get along with them and the other teams." He side eyed a group of boys arguing.

Quickly the boys stopped their bickering to turn their heads towards Tulip, looking at each other and back at him they huffed and nodded in understanding.

Smiling Tulip responds with "Good. Now that they are settled, let me elaborate more. The first year of your training is about two years long and during your first year you'll learn the basics about pretty much everything."

Snorting in my head thinking about how I knew the basics. Shaking my head I tried to pay more attention to what he was saying "The second year of training is also two years and from there you expand on your previous knowledge from the first year but learn new things like bows, techniques, etc."

I also knew those but continued to listen anyway "The third year of your training is three years, those will be the hardest years of your life. You may very well wish you'd be dead. Whether you go through with it isn't my problem, what is my problem is that I don't have wimps on my team."

Well then, Mr. Tulips I see how it is. But he is right, better to have little success with newbies than have cowards on your team that don't come through for you. He explained more about the academy, yay! Another school! Sarcasm is real right now....... The newbies are separated from the rest of the pack so that we don't 'get distracted'.

Sighing I wondered why we had to be separated from the pack but nothing serious came to mind so I just decided to shrug it off for now. Wren hummed in agreement at what Tulips said, which of course I didn't hear nor care to hear.

Once everyone was paired off into groups of three Tulips said, and I quote, "These will be your roommates. Don't forget. Memorize every detail. It may save your life."

Mysterious. Anyway I was happy that my roommates were Wren and Icarus. Although I was curious as to why we were since we did get into a bit of trouble with the Alpha. Deep in thought I didn't realize that we were dismissed to our dorm rooms. Wren tugged on my hand allowing me to refocus my attention on what Icarus was saying.

"Come on. Our room is this way."

Following him I looked around the area, if I had to guess we were 2 miles away from the actual pack. A few feet away was a huge building which I'd assume was the academy. It was a brown bricked, square windowed building with a grand staircase our front. Other buildings were scattered around the main building with letters marking what was which. Trees surrounded us on all sides and from what I could see the Third year students were responsible for the schools safety. Instructors also protrolled around the school grounds for its safety as well.

Finally entering building E (and turning down thousands of corridors) we made it to our dorm room. The room was simple with two bathrooms, three bedrooms, a living space, and a kitchen it was enough to keep three people alive. The dorm room came fully furnished with the schools uniform fulling each persons closet according to their chosen room.

Running over to my room, that conveniently had my name on it, I jumped into my bed. Hearing small feet run after me and a softer thump on the space besides me I knew it was Wren. Rolling over I look at the doorway to see Icarus staring at the interaction. Wiggling my eyebrows he chuckled but gave in and climb into my bed between me and Wren.

Icarus, being the responsible one set an alarm for when we had to wake up, wrapped his arms around both of us and shook his head at our irresponsibility. But soon sleep overcame us letting us finally rest after a long day.
