Chapter 1: Alone

Alone. I've been alone for as long as I could remember. Eighteenth birthdays sucked, Why? Because of the awakening. My eighteenth birthday was tonight, March 2, funnily enough everyone was waiting on me to get their animals and markings. The system held back everyone from getting their animals and markings until the last teens birthday, this solved the issue of teenagers getting their marks/animals earlier than others. I hated mysteries though. Especially ones that involve me. Furthermore, I hate not knowing each marking for the five packs. Only the Alphas, Betas, and Thirds got to know the markings of the pack they were in.

I'm frightened by my birthday (why you may ask?), because of how different I am from everyone within the small town of Lafayette. I'm terrified of what I'll become, of what pack I'll be in, of what my future holds, of what will happen to me when the whole town finds out about me. The secret? Well that's mine to tell, but right now nothing matters except what might occur tonight. To past the time lets review my knowledge of the system.

Initially, the power a person has depends upon your animal and how they see your memories, soul, hardships, emotions, etc. and then your animal expresses those aspects into markings onto their chosen's body. What's a chosen? Well a chosen is the human that gets picked by a spirit (spirits are what the animals are called before the awakening). Every generation in Lafayette gets categorized into packs. The awakenings happened in order of birthday, I'd be the last to go through the awakening because how the school arranged the cut off dates.

Each pack had a head animal that was chosen to represent the pack as a whole. The first pack is called Silent Owls and the leader is Marco Meyers; the responsibility of this pack is knowledge and collection of information for the other packs. The second pack is called Guard Dragons and the leader is Xavier Jewel with Luna Avery Jewel; the responsibility of this pack is controlling business exports and imports as well as inner finances for all the packs.

The third pack is Strong Bears and the leader is James Stone with Luna Honey Stone; the responsibility of this pack is politics and to resolve conflict with other nations/towns that didn't know about us, they hid the packs from the prying eyes of humans. The fourth pack is called Agile Cheetahs and the leader is Charlie Ravoy with Luna Jane Ravoy; the responsibility of this pack is network control, they controlled the media/news/internet to prevent widespread panic of humans and to store information for all the other packs.

The last pack, the fifth, is called Fierce Wolves and the leader is Akka Dragone; the responsibility of this pack was to be protectors, warriors, and enforcers. The last pack scared everyone, the leader was harsh, cruel, and demanding. Of course the other packs were scary in some ways but the last pack was 100% badass. Only two of the leaders were without lunas and this made their packs susceptible to attacks from other existing branches outside of our five pack system government. The clock struck midnight, the chiming of the alarm lured me out of my thoughts.

It has started.

*I hope everyone liked the part. I don't know if it was to long or short but I'll try to put in a variety. If there is any grammar, spelling, etc. wrong with my book please don't be rude about it, just nicely say that I need to fix it.
