The night was spent placing women, children, and those unable to fight in the cafeteria. Everyone was camped out and plenty of Saviors standing guard. The doors were blocked shut, there could be no risk of innocent lives being stolen. Negan tried to tell me I needed to stay with them, but I refused.
"If Arat, Regina and Laura can fight by you, so can I. I'm no different and you need all the help you can get." I told him truthfully. "You know I can handle the weapons."
"I just can't see you get hurt." Negan told me.
"They won't hurt me, I know they won't." I wasn't sure about that, actually, I would say anything to make Negan feel better about me fighting with him.
"If you get hurt, that'll be on me. I don't want you risking-." I began to cut him off.
"I'm fighting and even if you throw me in a room and lock the door you know for a fact that I'll find some way to get out of there. Just let me fight." I demanded. He nodded his head, knowing that he lost the argument. It soon became early morning. Around three a.m. the place was quiet, there were Saviors everywhere on guard, some were even outside of the walls. We didn't even know if Alexandria would be coming tomorrow, but I had a feeling they would be.
Time moved by quickly. We were just waiting and it killed me.
"Negan, they're going to come quick and all at once. We don't know the weapons they have. Do you know if any of your men were at the armory when we went to Alexandria the other day? They could be teamed up with the Hilltop or even worse, the Kingdom or both." I was extremely worried. Everyone's lives were at stake.
"It's okay. I won't let anything to happen to anyone, especially you." He wrapped his arms around me tightly. I knew what he was doing.
"Please don't hug me like it's your last time." I muffled into his chest.
"They're coming for me and they're going to find me. I have nowhere to go, I can't hide. I have to face my problems." He let go of me and looked me in the eye. "I love you. Everyday I look at you and wonder how I got so lucky. You are the moonlight of my life, every night. Giving all my love to you." He recited.
As we were standing in his room we heard commotion outside and a knock on the door. Without waiting for orders, Dwight barged in.
"Boss, it's time." We all filed out. Lucille in Negan's hand, mine in his other. I held onto the gun I was given and made sure my knife was in my back pocket. My guts were turning and my heart was racing. I knew the people of Alexandria weren't going to kill anyone other than Negan unless it was absolutely necessary. Negan gave strict orders to hold fire until they made the first shot.
We walked outside and heard Rick's voice.
"We just want to talk. We don't want to hurt anyone if we don't have to. Let us in, Negan." He yelled from outside of the gates. I looked at Negan hopelessly.
"Let them in. If you don't they'll just tear down the gates." I told him. He nodded and motioned for the gates to be opened. Rick stood on the other side along with Michonne, Abraham, Daryl, and Aaron. It was an odd group, there had to be more somewhere. "I'm going to leave you to talk." I lied. Something else was going on. I walked back inside and met up with Isaac who was guarding the doors to the cafeteria. "They are inside the gates but there's only five of them. The others are somewhere, just keep an eye out, I'm going to search the perimeter, let the others know. Keep your eye out." He nodded and knocked on the doors to have someone let him in so he could warn the others on guard.
I went out the back entrance that was also being guarded and looked for the guards that were supposed to be guarding the back of the Sanctuary. There were twelve of them spread out behind the building. I saw Justin in the mix.
"Four of you need to get to the top of the building, now. There are more out there and we need to be ready. I don't know what they have planned, but I'm going outside." Justin shook his head. "They won't hurt me." I motioned for him to go to the top of the building and a few others followed. A man I never learned the name of opened the back entrance for me and I ran out.
I looked around quietly and quickly, making myself aware of any traps set up. I walked swiftly further out and kept my eyes open. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Sasha behind a tree. She didn't see me but I ducked behind a larger tree and watched her movements. She was just standing there, holding a gun. I looked around to see if anyone else was around here. They might have been spread out. She started moving and I followed her, mimicking every step so she wouldn't hear me behind her. She was quick like me, but it was hard to keep up with her. All I know is that she was heading closer to the walls.
There had to be others out here, it wouldn't just be her. Carl had to be here, he wouldn't have let Rick come here alone. That's when I spotted him. He was standing crouched near the back entrance. I don't know how any of the guards hadn't spotted him. Sasha was headed toward the front. That's when Carl spotted me. I held my hands up in defense and put my gun on the ground, showing I wasn't going to try anything. He walked closer to me and was only a few feet when gunshots came from inside the walls. Multiple. I turned to run but was cut off by Carl, I hadn't realized he moved so close to me.
The sharp edge of a knife was sliced across my stomach and I fell to my knees.
"Now you can feel the pain you caused." He whispered sinisterly before running towards the gates. The cut wasn't deep enough to severely injure me but with the amount of blood loss, I would soon go weak. Carl had taken my gun and I was alone in the woods. The area wasn't entirely ridden of walkers and I knew the sounds of gunshots would have them approaching soon.
I needed to run as fast as I could before I passed out in the middle of the woods and became walker bait.
