Days went by, then weeks, then months. It was hard at first, leading. Sometimes people still had trouble taking orders from me, but Negan sat them back in their place. We continued to go to Alexandria, sometimes we'd made it out with a lot, sometimes not so much. I could tell Negan still got upset when we didn't come back with nearly as much stuff, but he knew this was the only thing that I wanted.
Negan and I were at our usual nightly spot. Something that never planned on changing was our nights. We stayed outside sometimes until it was way past dark. When we did this, it felt like the world wasn't what it was outside the Sanctuary. Every time I was with Negan these days, it felt like my world was complete.
"You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, you know that?" He asked me.
"You've told me that a few times." I laughed.
"Because it's true. I just want to remind you." He said. "I love you." He added.
"I love you too."
We stood up and he grabbed my hand as we walked back inside.
Things remained good. We lived our lives everyday, surviving and leading. I wanted to spend the rest of my life here.
Negan and I were laying in bed, his arms wrapped around me as we talked.
"Marry me." He stated.
"What?" I asked. I was taken aback. We never talked about marriage before, I didn't think we ever needed to.
"You heard me, Avery. Marry me. I want you to be my wife." He said again. I sat up and looked at him. "If you're going to say no, spare me." He said.
"No, it's not that. I'm just in shock is all. Negan, of course I want to marry you. Yes." I smiled. I wrapped my arms around him and he buried me in kisses.
"I love you forever, Avery." He whispered.
And that's how things would be. Forever.
