Rose's POV
I finally fall asleep at probably about four in the morning. Sleep. Sleep is good. This bed is so comfy. I like to sleep. But I have a habit of going to bed way too late. So three and a half hours after finally drifting off I wake up like clockwork. 7:30 every morning. To the minute. To the second even. No matter how much sleep I've had.
I haven't unpacked anything in to my new cupboard yet, so I rummage around in my trunk for my school uniform. Crumpled of course. Nothing a little magic can't fix.
I pick up my clothes and drag myself to the bathroom to take a nice hot shower. I would stay in the shower all day if I could. But I can't. I have to go to class. Ugh. That'll probably mean homework. I seriously don't get the whole homework thing. I mean, we do a heap of work in class, why do we need to do it out of class as well?
I get out of the shower, dry myself off and pull on my white shirt, grey skirt, grey stockings and a grey cardigan. My hair is a mess. It is basically a wet birds nest of red curls. I use magic to fix it. No way I'm using muggle methods to get those knots out. I put on a tiny bit if makeup, put my shoes on, and head out to the great hall for breakfast.
I walk in and head to my normal spot between Al and Roxy, facing Dom and Lily.
As soon as I sit down I am bombarded with questions.
"And where were you last night Weasley?"
"Rose were did you go"
"What did McGonagall tell you"
"Ok, ok calm down!" I say, quieting them. "Well, after dinner, as you probably know, I went to McGonagall's office. Because I'm head girl. She told me all the stuff I need to know. Then she told me I have a new common room. So I was there."
"Wait, by yourself?" Dom asks.
"No, with the head boy," I say.
"Who happens to be.....?" Roxy asks, sounding like her usual self.
"Scorpius Malfoy," I say and bang my head down on the table.
"Oh my god Rose you lucky thing! Scorpius Malfoy! He is the most good looking person I have ever seen in my life!" Roxy says excitedly.
"Rox, there is no one on this Earth that I hate more," I say "Just forget about it please.
We eat breakfast and I barely say a word. They all chat and all, but all I can think is that I won't be spending my last year at Hogwarts in the Gryffindor common room.
We all set off for our first classes. I have potions, and so does Al, so we go together.
"Rose, I know you really hate Malfoy, but I think you should give him a chance. He's not that bad once you get to know him," Al says, but of course he'd say that. Him and Scorpius are mates!
"We agreed we're on speaking terms, and I'm going to try not to start fights over stupid little things," I tell him, because he should know.
"I'm proud," he replies, and we walk in silence to our class.
---------------------------
My day goes by pretty uneventfully. I make my way back to the common room to do my transfiguration homework and start my potions essay.
I take a seat at the table in the middle and get started.
The transfiguration homework is pretty easy. Just practise the spell we were working on. I managed to turn my book into a mouse in three goes.
I think about starting my potions essay. Two feet of parchment on the purpose and uses of moonstones. It's not due for a week. Maybe I could just... Wait until tomorrow? Sounds like a plan. I hear the door swing open and in comes Scorpius.
"Hey there Red," he says, and I want to ignore him, but what does he not get about me not wanting to be called Red?
"For the last freaking time, MY NAME IS NOT RED," I practically scream at him.
"Calm your farm Rose! Seriously, like I said last night, can we please just try to get along. I mean, we can't really do anything about this, so we should make the most of it. I just want to be friends"
I sit and think about what he said, before responding with a simple "Fine".
He sits down at the table in front of me. His fingers fiddle with the corner of a bit of parchment that I didn't use.
It looks like he starts to talk, but then he doesn't. Faltering at his words.
"Rose please be honest with me, what have I really done that makes you hate me so much?" He asks. Ugh.
I sigh. "Honestly Scorpius, I don't know. I guess with the whole thing with our parents hating each other and everything my dad drummed it into me that Malfoys are bad news. Don't talk to that Scorpius kid Rosie, he looks just as bad as his father," I say, impersonating my dad.
"Well at least have a go at getting to know me before you decide you hate me ok? Friends?"
"I suppose so", I reply, with a nod.
He smiles, and gets up to go to the kitchen.
He returns a minute later with a box, which he reveals is full of cookies. There's chocolate chip, what looks like white chocolate or some sort of nut, as well as a really delicious looking double chocolate chip thing. I want that.
"Cookie Rose?" he asks as he sits down again.
I nod and gesture to him to hold the box out for me. He does, and I take out the delicious looking chocolatey one.
"Thanks," I say between mouthfuls.
"I was thinking," he says, "That we should change the horrible colours of these walls. I mean, it's horrid!"
"Oh but I love this horrid shade of pale blue," I say in a whiny voice, and take another bite of the cookie.
"You're not serious are you? This colour is absolutely... I don't even had words to describe it! Can't we change it? Pleeeease?" Scorpius complains.
"What colour do you want to change it to?" I ask, and he sits still for a few seconds before jumping up and clearing his throat.
"Well. I think green." he suggests.
"The couch is green. What about a less horrid shade of blue," I reply.
"Ahh, so you do think it's horrid!" he says with a smirk.
"No, I actually love it," I say trying to sound sure of myself.
"Whatever. Ok, a less horrid shade of blue. That'll do," he says to himself, and with a wave of his wand, the walls to our common room turn a lovely shade of greeny blue.
"Lovely" I say.
----------------------
After a long chat at dinner with Al, Lily, Roxy and Dom, I head back up to the common room to find Scorpius already there, sitting in one of the armchairs in front of the crackling fire.
"Hey," he says.
"Hi," I reply, and flop down on the couch next to the armchair.
We sit in silence for a few minutes before I decide I'm going to go and have a bath and go to bed.
"I'm gonna go have a bath, then I'll probably just go to bed," I tell Scorpius as I start to stand up.
"Ok. Goodnight Rosie," he replies, sounding a bit sad.
"Goodnight." And I leave to have my bath.
