Light of the Holy Maiden

Liang Xue was the High Bishop of Fu Xing. He was second only to the Pope.

The Pope was the closest existence to the God of Light. Because of this reason, the Pope always escaped work to hole himself up in the prayer hall. Liang Xue met him several times and he concluded that the Pope was a God of Light fanatic. Liang Xue felt a bit irritated but he paid no mind to the Pope's actions. The Pope could do whatever he wanted and with the main church's administration in his hands, he could do whatever he wanted.

Liang Xue had high light elements, landing on the High Bishop position without much difficulty. Not a lot of people had comparable amount of light elements to him. Liang Xue married a woman wih high light elements as well. Although the people in the church were rather disatisfied, he gave them a logical reason. He told them that his children might have higher light elements than the two of them. Because of this reason, the people in the church were silenced. Though, women couldn't achieve any statuses within the church, other than being a Nun or a Holy Maiden.

However, there could only be a single Holy Maiden, and a Holy Maiden held higher status compared to the Pope. The Holy Maiden would be selected from a handful of beautiful women with high light elements chosen to be sacrificed to the God of Light every year. The Holy Maiden must be pure and beautiful. In other words, she must keep her chastity.

At first, Liang Xue planned to make his daughter the Holy Maiden. However, his firstborn daughter was not beautiful, though her light elements were very high, although not comparable to his. With it, his daughter easily got a slot to become a Nun.

His secondborn child was a boy. Although the boy was beautiful, the amount of light elements he held was pitifully low. To think that he was estatic, excited that his son's appearance was the best in the land. Embarassed, he told his wife to 'let him study under a real Bishop and allocate him to Star County'. His wife was smart, immediaely knowing what Liang Xue wanted to do. She pleaded with him, but Liang Xue still stood firmly. He would never let such a shameful son bring embarassment to him.

When he sent his son over, peculiarly, he felt a sense of loss. Although not prominent, he felt sorry for sending the little boy away. Though after a few days, Liang Xue didn't think much of iit and simply continued his work. A little boy with low light elements weren't worth his time.

"Xue'ge...arent's you being too cruel, too harsh on out son? Our son...our son...he...," his wife cried as soon as she got back, "he was very brave...too brave! You're forcing him to do things he shouldn't do at this age!" After saying that, his wife locked herself in her room the whole day, refusing to eat and drink. He heard her pray to the God of Light for their son, but it was no use. Would the God of Light take notice - pay attention to - the boy who had light elements little to none?

Liang Xue did not want to hear about that boy anymore. That boy was his black cat, there was no way he would want to know about the boy more than what he had known. The boy was unlucky, and he simply got rid of a stain in his life. In his opinion, allowing the boy to retain his surname was already quite merciful of him. In fact, the boy should thank him.

Liang Xue was te adonis of his generation. He had long blonde hair and grey eyes. If he didn't grow up to look manly, he would probably become a Holy Maiden candidate if he hid his gender. It was a surprise when his daughter turned to be one with an average face. His wife immediately apologized to him, as her parents were quite average. Although Liang Xue's parents were average as well, he didn't tell his wife that and simply played the role of a merciful husband and consoled her. After all, her parents had high positions in the country. Even their 'some reputation' would play a huge role in their lives.

Not long after, the people heard that the wife was pregnant once more, but the news of the child's birth was surpressed. Not a person knew that Liang Xue had a son with low light elements except for Liang Xue, his wife, and the Priest that helped with the testing. Even so, the news were hurriedly surpressed so some of the news still leaked to the public. Everyone knew that he had a son. Liang Xue immediately gave the Priest a light stone to make him shut up. The Priest did shut his mouth. A few days later, that Priest suddenly moved churches, and went somewhere else.
