The sudden shutting sound of the front door made Chloe spring on her stool and she almost dropped her small owl of breakfast. She arched backwards and tried peeking at the front door, but the entrance way was blocked out of sight. It didn’t take long until her husband’s familiar form came to sight. Smiling, Brian freed his arm from his staple black leather jacket and tossed it onto the top of the kitchen island.

“You startled me.” Chloe commented and focused her gaze at her laptop’s screen again, following the characters with her eyes. Chloe heard Brian's faint chuckle before his footsteps came to a halt right next to her and the familiar mix of the scent of fine leather and Brian’s fresh cologne penetrated her nostrils, casting a calming chill down Chloe’s spine.

Chewing softly on some peppermint gum, Brian cuffed Chloe’s shoulders and gave her a slight shake, compelling her to calm down. “You should have expected me to be back at some point.” Brian kissed the crown of her head before shoving something inside the fridge.

“Yeah, about that, you didn’t wake me up today though I asked you to last night.” She mumbled under her breath and absentmindedly sliced another half a banana into her bowl, mixing the fruit into her Greek yogurt.

“Yeah…Babe, I didn’t even sleep in our room tonight if you haven’t noticed…” Brian said amusedly, looking up the ceiling with a mysterious smile on his lips, his Adam’s apple dropping as he gulped.

Taken aback, Chloe frowned, her carefully groomed eyebrows meeting. “Huh? Of course you did, we fell asleep watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians, remember? Kris was worried about Rob again, tell me you remember that!” Her torqoise eyes bulged in disbelief, Brian wasn’t even that tired the previous night to justify not recalling anything they and to insist he wasn’t even there.

“No, Babe-“ His words worried her and only intensified her scolding expression. “You fell asleep watching those weirdoes...” Even though he was somewhat mocking her, Chloe felt relieved that Brian’s memory was fine after all. “You know I can’t sleep in the same bed with you after you slather that fake tan all over yourself, right? It smells like a very potent, coffee flavored dog biscuit, makes me wanna vomit, really.”  Brian faked a series of overdramatic gags. “Plus, you left a weird orange…ish stain of my side, see?” Tugging his shirt up towards his shoulder, he revealed a patch of discoloration around his rib area.

Pursing her lips, Chloe shrugged. “I don’t see much of a difference.” She turned her gaze away slyly. “Anyway, please wake me up next time, okay? I don’t care if you can’t sleep with me after I tan or whatever, I just want to see my baby in the mornings, okay?”

Brian’s can of soda sizzled loudly as he popped it open and took a few gulps, titling his head back. “Fine, Babe, but so you know, I just dropped her off at the daycare like a second ago.” Brian replied, “-and I picked up another carton of milk because you complained I’ve drunk all your skimmed milk or something on Tuesday while experimenting with that fancy coffee machine Brent gave us.” He added with a grin, even though the latte’s he attempted to make that day turned out terribly bland.

Chloe tore her look off the computer and found Brian smiling at her, pointing at the double door fridge proudly. “Thanks.” She smirked, taking another spoonful into her mouth, careful not to spoil her carefully applied lipstick. “It’s really nice of you.”
