“Lillian. Wake up.” a deep voice came. She opened her eyes, and she felt renewed. Her muscles were still sore, but her wounds were cleaned and closed. Her stomach was full and her eyes could focus easily.
“Lillian Krome” the voice said again; she looked to the right towards where the noise was coming from.
“I need you to come with me” Said one of the two cops.
With the nurse’s approval, Lilly was wheeled out of the warm hospital by a nurse and helped into the police car. She was confused. Were people really looking for her?? Where was her family? Why was she in a police car, she has never done anything wrong. The nurse placed the wheelchair in the trunk when Lillian was put in the backseat and the car sped away from the hospital.
“So Lillian.” Came the deep cops voice as she was wheeled into the police station, his words snapped her out of her distant thoughts. “We have a few questions for you.” The officer wheeled her into a small room.
“My name is Officer Foster and this is my partner Mcgarrett” said the younger cop “We have called your aunt to tell her about your safe arrival and she’ll be waiting in the lobby when we have finished the questioning”
Aunt Mary? Why not mom or dad?
"Lillian. Do you know how you got to the hospital?” asked Mcgarrett
“A hippie took me.” She coughed out. Each cop wrote something on their note pads.
“Where did she find you?”
“I don’t know, I don’t remember.”
“Do you-“
“Where’s my family?” Lilly interrupted. The two officers looked at each other.
“Lillian, you and your family have been missing for sixteen days.” Said Officer Foster. “You are the only Krome we’ve found, your neighbor called when you didn’t come to the neighborhoods barbeque. We’ve been looking for you and your family ever since. So far, you’re the only lead in this case.” That’s when Lilly started to cry, although her sobs lasted not very long.
“We’ll pick this up again another time.” Said Mcgarrett, who seem uncomfortable.
Lilly was once again wheeled around and out of the questioning room. She turned into the lobby and in an instant her aunt was at her side, sobbing.
“LILLY DEAR” She squealed and gave her an awkward hug. “I’ve been so worried!” She looked at the cops and instantly started fixing her hair and apparel. Annoying little flirt. Although her aunt wasn’t on her mind for very long. Lilly started to think about where her poor little brother could be. She hoped he wasn’t suffering, for he was only just in kindergarten. She thought about her dad and she hoped he was okay. Mary wheeled Lilly out of the cop shop and into her red Volvo. She seated Lilly in the back and started the car, which smelt like cotton candy and febreze.
“Lil, I’ll get the guest room ready. Oh gosh I was just so worried, you were all over the news. I wasn’t expecting this call but I sure am glad I got it.” Ranted on her aunt, Lilly though, wasn’t interested in her aunt at all. Lilly hadn’t seen her aunt in 6 months. Her mom was very distant with her family. She was pretty anti-social all together.
Lilly thought long and hard about what happened. She started to remember what had happened yesterday in short slivers of images. Her head pounded with thoughts as she traveled down the bumpy road of their small town. She remembered the roar of Angel’s engine approaching. She remembered not having the energy to scream, but just make a loud enough groan. She remembered slipping in and out of consciousness at the hospital. She could hear the noises but she couldn’t open her eyes. She remembered the consistent beat of the heart monitor. Then she remembered voices.
“Her vitals are stable. The wire we removed on both ankles was cutting into the tendon. They seemed to cut deeper with every step. I’m not sure how she could have walked into the lobby. She must have passed out due to blood loss and exhaustion. We also found traces of more wire on the wrists. She seemed to have bruising on the chest and back. We think she was crammed in a small area like a trunk perhaps, and slammed around to get out.”
“Doctor, was there anything else we need to know?” She remembered that voice… Officer Foster?
“Yes” Said the Doctor. “Where ever she was found, she ran there. Most of the skin on her heels are worn down.”
Where they found her? She thought to herself The forest?
