A Fever

A/N: Sorry for not publishing for a while! I didn't have any inspiration until now, so it was hard for me to write! Anyway, enjoy the chapter!

Yugi's POV

I was happily waiting for my Yami to come home. We had been so intimate and in love earlier in the day that I couldn't help but blush.

Sigh..... I thought.

"Yami, I miss you.....when are you coming home?" I mumbled to myself.

I looked down at my desk, the unfinished project reminded me that I had work to do. "Sigh, I hope I finish soon. Yami's going to come home soon from playing with his friends."

Thinking of that, I felt odd. 'Yami always goes out from time to time. I wonder what he's doing right now.'

A couple hours later, I finally finished the project. I stretched out my tired limbs and decided to go for a walk. Before that, I tidied up the room. Suddenly, something fell out from Yami's belongings. It was a notebook. I didn't want to invade Yami's privacy, but my curiosity got the better of me as I opened it up. It read:

June 24, 20XX

I'm going out with my love, Anzu, Jou, and Honda to that night club, then Domino Park around 10 pm. I'm kinda tired of hanging around at home where he is.

.......

I froze, not knowing what to think. 'No, this....this can't be! No, he must have known that I would look at this and wrote it on purpose to tease me. Yes, that must be it. There's no other reason that he would say something like that.....'

I didn't know who I was convincing, but I needed to find out the truth. I looked at the clock, which flashed 9:40 pm.

It takes 20 minutes to get to Domino Park from here. I grabbed my things and left. 'Yami, please don't betray me.....'

I arrived at 10:00 pm sharp. No one was there. My tensed body relaxed. However......

Just as I was about to leave, I heard footsteps. I quickly hid in the bushes and waited. The moonlight shone on the four who I thought were close to me.

"Man, that was a blast!" Jounouchi exclaimed as he slung an arm around Yami's shoulders.

"Get off of my Yamikins!!!" shouted Anzu, as she possessively wrapped her arms around Yami.

"Sheesh, okay." Jounouchi said as he put his hands up in surrender. "Hey, when are we gonna stop the 'friend act' with that wimp? And when are you going to break up with Yugi, Yami?"

"Yeah, I agree. I've almost exposed myself in front of Yu-that wimp. I'm getting tired of putting on a mask."

"Hmmm...I guess it was going to be in a month or so?" said Yami, snuggling close to Anzu.

"That's great news, Yamikins!" giggled Anzu. "I was honestly tired of seeing that wimp hangin around you."

My heart was submerged in an icy cavern the moment I saw this. 'Why? .....Why?! What did I do to deserve this?!'

I crept away, stood up and ran, crying. I didn't care where I went, everything felt so dark, so cold....so numb, so much so that......not even the heat of the summer night air could warm my heart. I kept running and running and running. Everything around me became so dark. When I couldn't take it anymore, I sunk into the darkness....

Atemu's POV

I was walking, or rather, sneaking down the hall. I really didn't want that annoying princess to find me. I remembered that Yugi's room was close to here and ran up to it. I opened the door, to see him somewhat pale in his sleep.

That's odd.....I thought to myself.

I got closer to him and saw that he was in pain. I panicked and ran up to come right next to him. The poor boy was sweating and looked extremely sick. I felt his forehead.

A fever....What should I do? What should I do? What should I do?

As I was gradually losing my cool, I unconsciously grabbed Yugi's hand. Then, I heard a knock at the door.

"My Pharaoh, is something wrong? You've been in there for a while."

I breathed out a sigh of relief. Seto can help me with this! But, how did he know I was here? ........That doesn't matter now! "Seto, come in. I need your help."

"Very well. Excuse me." Seto walked in and looked down towards me. "Pharaoh, what did you-"

He froze when he looked at where my hands were.

I tilted my head to the side in confusion. "Seto, what's wrong?"

I looked towards where he was looking and saw that my hand had intertwined Yugi's hand.

"Am I interrupting?" He asked with a hint of laughter.

My face flushed slightly. "N-No...."

"...ugh....." Yugi groaned out in pain, making me realize the problem at hand.

"Seto, Yugi has a fever! What do I do?"

Seto sighed heavily and put a hand to his forehead in disappoint. "Pharaoh."

"Yes?"

"Did you not think of calling a healer or doctor as soon as you saw this?"

"Ah." I completely forgot! I screamed internally.

"You forgot, didn't you?" Seto sighed again and mumbled. "It seems that love has muddled your head."

"Wait here." Seto said. "I'll go get the healer. Try to lower Yugi's body temperature in the meantime by putting a slightly damp towel soaked in cold water to his forehead and..... *cough cough*......change his clothes. It's not good for him to sit in his own filth." He finished in a strange tone.

"Got it." Because I was so worried about Yugi, I didn't see the strange glances that Seto cast from me to Yugi and back again.

Seto left and I started to change Yugi. Only when I wiped off all the sweat and put on another set of pajamas did I realize I had come into (indirect) contact with Yugi's soft and supple skin. I shook my head side to side to stop thinking about it and continued to lower Yugi's body temperature with the cold, wet towel.

Malik and Bakura came by and when they saw what I was doing started teasing me left and right until their respective lovers came by to tell them something. After that, they lost all interest in teasing me and left, but I felt somewhat unsettled when they started giggling when they looked at me.

Seto finally came back minutes later with a healer named Miho. She took over taking care of Yugi while I had to rush for my meeting with Seto.

However, I was unaware of a somewhat malicious gaze. However, it was directed not towards me, but towards Yugi.
