a/n: (a/n means author note btw!) We are two chapters away from seeing some time traveling awesomeness! This is about to get cool!
*Alvar's POV
Alvar watched Fintan pace back and forth like he always did. Fintan asked, "You're telling me that she's comfortable at Havenfield?"
"Yes Fintan, she's content with Grady and Edaline. They both share losses, but it makes them bond better."
"Well," Fintan laughed, "We'll just drive them apart!"
Doesn't Fintan just think everything's easy? Driving a relationship apart is one of the hardest things in this world!
Alvar asked, "Yeah, but how do you suppose we go upon doing that?"
"Oh Alvar, a lot of things can make a teenager depressed and angry; and besides, we have lots of time to think about it."
"I suppose," Alvar sighed. He changed the topic. "Will you tell Brant to stop creating those fires in the human cities, it will eventually be called to attention."
Fintan replied, "Oh Alvar, there are reasons for what we do. You just have to think. I mean, why would we ever set random fires in human cities? Maybe the point is to call attention to ourselves. If you look closely," Fintan pointed to a digital map of a human city, "You will see that a sign is drawn with the fires. But not an eye--a swan."
Alvar nodded, finally understanding the reason for the fires. "To frame the Black Swan to get attention off of us, smart move."
Fintan laughed, agreeing. He then commanded, "I want you to give a full report of this meeting to Gisela so that you can catch her up. Something is coming soon Alvar, I can feel it." Before Alvar could say goodbye, Fintan pulled out a leaping crystal and glittered away.
How was this whole kidnapping going to work? And what are they planning? I wish they included me more!
Alvar pondered his thoughts, finally remembering Fintan's order. Alvar walked through the hideout, cringing at the pasty walls and dull lighting. He took 2 lefts, 6 rights, and one more left. He pushed the door open and walked into the room, sinking into a chair.
Lady Gisela smirked. "Hello, Alvar."
*Sophie's POV
Sophie trudged into the alchemy room, sitting down at a desk. Lady Galvin hovered over a simmering pot, which Sophie assumed was an alchemy project. Sophie cleared her throat, managing a shy utter. "Ummm...ma'am?"
"I hear you dear, I'll be there in a second."
Lady Galvin finished her work and rushed to Sophie's side. She asked, "Let's start. I suppose you don't know much about alchemy?"
"None at all," mumbled Sophie. Lady Galvin rolled her eyes. She was clearly annoyed. "When I ask for a decent prodigy this year..."
"I'm sorry ma'am, I'll learn quickly."
"Well, I suppose I should start you with some basics."
Lady Galvin began teaching Sophie the basics of alchemy, the standard Elvin measuring system, some basic ingredients and mixtures, and finally the outcomes of different mixtures. When she explained all of that, Sophie rapidly writing down notes, she told Sophie, "I suppose we should let you take a placement task, see what you can do. Sort of like a pre-assessment. Does that sound fair?"
When Sophie agreed, "This recipe," Lady Galvin shoved a paper into her hands, "will tell you how to make the serum of turning glass into iron. I will have you doing this if I have to teach you step-by-step."
