"As much as I hate to break this meeting up, your mate needs to see Jasmine, River, she's covered in bruises." I'm popped out of my little bubble with River at the sound of his fathers voice and come back to reality.
River then let's my feet touch the ground again, but he doesn't release his hold on me which makes me smile.
But River doesn't smile, quite the opposite in fact. A frown sits on his perfect face as he scans over my face which I assume is covered in bruises, but I wouldn't know since I haven't seen myself in a mirror since the day I was taken.
Daniel walks around the desk towards the door with Mitch following him, gesturing his head towards the door, silently telling us to follow as well.
I go to walk behind them, but I'm swooped into a pair of strong arms and carried instead. I want to tell him that I can walk just fine, but I've learnt not to speak without being spoken to, so I keep my mouth shut.
We walk out of the mansion and into the building next door which just looks like a small hospital, and go straight into one of the rooms where a woman in a lab coat is stood.
She turns to us with a smile, but can't hold back the gasp when her eyes land on me. Is there something on my face? Bad joke? Gotcha.
"Jasmine, this is Rivers mate-" he pauses and turns to me. "I just realised that I haven't asked for your name, how rude of me." He chuckles, looking slightly guilty.
I look between everyone in the room, subconsciously shuffling closer to River.
"Winter." I say quietly, looking into Daniels eyes, knowing that Luka hated it when I didn't look him in the eyes while he was speaking and while I was answering him. He said that my eyes flash white when I'm lying so I needed to look him dead in the eyes while speaking.
I didn't know these people, they could be like him.
"That's a beautiful name, my love." Rivers voice rings through my ears, causing a shiver to run down my spine, and I look at him to see a smile on his face which mirrored onto mine.
"As you can probably tell, she's not in the best of conditions and needs looking over." Daniel continues and Jasmine nods and then gestures for me to sit on the hospital bed as the others leave the room, River hesitating at the door, but eventually leaves.
Jasmine then begins looking me over, pressing places and asking if they hurt, checking my blood pressure and stuff along those lines.
She sits down at her desk once she's done and writes a few things down and then turns to me.
"Where were you previously to being found?" She asks.
"Um, I was in a pack, the blue crescent pack, that's where I grew up... but a year ago, I was taken and kept in a basement by a group of Rogues." Being beaten every time I lied makes it almost too easy to tell people the truth. The pain just isn't worth hiding things.
She nods and writes something down. "What were the living conditions like?"
"I was chained to a wall by a silver collar, it was always dark since there were no windows. But there was a small light for when people came down to see me." I reply, desperately trying not to tell her about my visions. Like I said, they could be like him.
"What did they feed you and when?" Is her next question.
"I was fed when I was... good. It was usually a piece of bread and a glass of water." I don't tell her that I was only fed when I had a vision and told them about it, settling for the word 'good'.
"Can you elaborate on what you had to do to get food?" She asks, a curious look in her eyes.
I hate not telling the truth. I could already feel the beating I was going to get.
"I can't, I'm sorry." I whisper, looking at my hands in my lap.
"That's fine, I've asked enough questions for today I reckon anyway." She says and I look up at her shocked. No slap? No ripping my hair out for not answering her?
She stands from her chair with her clipboard in hand and tells me to stay put while she talks to the others.
I'm sat there twiddling my thumbs for a few minutes. The door reopens and I expect to see Jasmine stood there, but instead it's River.
He's at my side in a split second, crouching down in front of me and taking my hands in his, placing kisses on the back of both of them.

*Rivers POV*
After what feels like forever, the door opens and Jasmine steps into the hallway with us.
"How is she?" I ask immediately.
"Honestly? Not good." She starts, making my heart drop, she looks to her clipboard. "She has bruises and scars all over her body, the main scarring is on her back, which from my best guess, could be from a whip, wolf claws or knives. The worst injury is the open wound around her neck from what she said was a silver collar." I immediately remembered breaking that after I ripped the bastard, chocking her, to shreds.
"They only fed her when she was, quote, 'good'. She didn't feel comfortable enough to tell me what that meant unfortunately, but the result of that being that she is extremely dehydrated and malnourished, her ribs are visible." She lists and with every word, my heart breaks more and more.
To think my beautiful mate was put through all of that kills me in every way. She didn't deserve this.
I do wonder however, what 'good' meant. I'll have to ask her once she feels at home and more comfortable with me.
Not wanting her to be left alone any longer, I open the door and walk straight to her, my person, my mate, my world.
I crouch down in front of her and take her hands in mine, kissing both with as much love as I possibly can.
I then made a promise to myself and to her that she would never feel pain again as long as I could help it.
I will protect Winter with my life.
Whatever it takes.
