Kelsey's P.O.V.
I snapped my head in the direction the voice came from to see the man in question starring at me with wide eyes. "What?" He repeated.
"Grissom.." Sara started only to have Gil give her a hard look and raise his hand.
"KT follow me to my office. We need to talk." He stated in a hard voice. No emotion whatsoever, it's been a long time since he used that voice on me.
I looked over at Sara to see her smirking at me and looked back at Grissom, nodded and followed him out of the room and down the hall to his office. When I stepped through the door he closed and locked it behind me. "Gil, I'm sorry, I shouldn't of said that here."
"Your right. You shouldn't of. If anyone heard you other than Sara we couldn't work together and I need you on this case." He told me emphasizing the need.
"Okay, I'm sorry." I muttered.
"We'll talk about this more at home. Right now we need to go over everything together, talk it out a case at a time." With that he walked out of the door and back to the layout room as I quietly followed a few steps behind him. What have I done?
We were half way through the first case when we got to the letters. Again I couldn't help but think I've seen the writing somewhere before. I voiced my thoughts to Grissom.
"Do you remember where exactly?"
I thought about it for a minute but nothing came to mind. "No."
He got a thoughtful look on his face but continued to work. Something was kept telling me to stay focused on the letters. "Can you start at the beginning and talk me exactly through the findings?" I asked.
"The victims mother found Melisa in her apartment, they had lunch everyday at four at a diner down the road from the mothers house but Melisa never showed so her mother knew something was wrong. She rushed over and used the key that Melisa gave her when she didn't answer the door. The mother found her on the bedroom floor dressed in a white summer dress but blood had soaked through and that's how the mother knew she was dead. There was to much blood. She called 911 right away and they called us. When we got there everything looked to be in its designated place. The victim died from excessive blood loss. No prints were found, No DNA, No semen even though she was raped. The only thing we found was the murder weapon, a kitchen knife from the victims kitchen and a box with a letter addressed to K. We opened the box and found pictures of roses, a wedding from a magazine, a ring, and a dress. During the obstosy Doc found that the victims heart had been replaced with a rose. So he must of kept it." He explained.
A letter addressed to K? Pictures of weddings? Maybe it was a stalker of sorts. "What's different about the other murders?"
"The only known difference is there are different letters addressed on the notes he leaves behind and the contents in the boxes."
That could help us. "We need to focus on the contents of the boxes and the letters." I told him. I didn't know why but I had a feeling we were about to find out something very important.
"We'll have to tomorrow. We are already 4 hours passed shift. Come on its time to go home." He muttered as he rubbed his eyes.
"Migrane?" I asked. He never quit working voluntarily unless he had one.
He just nodded and got up and walked out of the door. I followed after I packed away all the evidence and put it where it belonged.
On the way to Gil's house there was a deafening silence. It made me extremely anxious and nervous. We have never ran out of conversation not since we first meet. We always were in sync and shooting off ideas all the time. I already missed his random quotes and bits of information. I would fix this even if it was the last thing I did. When we finally got to his house I quickly got out of the car, rushed up to the door pushed it open and practically ran into my room. I needed to be alone for a while. I was about to sit on my bed when I noticed a box siting there. Just like all the others there was a letter laying on top.
Gil entered my room mouth open to say something but stopped when he saw the box. "What's that?"
"Nothing." I said quickly.
"What is it Kelsey?" He asked quietly.
"I don't know. I got them a lot when I was back home. I don't know how whoever it is sending them knows your address." I whispered looking above his head at the wall.
"What was in them?" He muttered as he walked closer to me.
"I don't know. I never opened any of them, I was planning on it when I got settled in here." I closed my eyes, I didn't know what was in those boxes but I had a good idea. I had a stalker. I knew it, he knew it, Natasha knew it. I felt very weak, powerless. I felt a tear roll down my cheek. I hated crying, I hated not being in control, I hated feeling powerless. I prided myself on being strong.
The next thing I knew I was wrapped in his comforting embrace being held tightly against him. I tried to keep the tears from rolling down my face but I couldn't. I didn't want him to see me like this so I pushed against his chest and whispered "Get out."
"No Kelsey." He replied softly gripping my upper arms to stop me from pushing him away again.
"Gil. Get. Out."
"No. You need me right now, You need to be held and comforted, You need someone to tell you everything will be okay. I won't let your pride prevent you from having that." He told me voice firm as he wrapped his arms tightly around me.
I couldn't fight it anymore. I needed him. Those words repeated themselves in my head as I cried on his shoulder wrapped in his arms.
As my sobs continued I felt myself being picked up and carried somewhere. When he got to we're he wanted to go I felt him sit and lay back leaving me to lay on top of him his arms clinging to me.
"W-what are you doing Gil?" I asked my voice scratchy from all the crying.
"We'll talk in the morning. I need to rest and so do you. Goodnight KT."
"Goodnight Gilbert." I whispered as I laid my head on his chest.
Hearing his heartbeat, feeling his arms around me I fell asleep almost instantly.
