The ball was going as planned. People were chating, lovely music was playing, champagne was flowing. Gradma had suggested for a standing ball. Having a buffet organize everything along with the kitchen staff instead of having a dinner where people would be stuck to be talking only with the people next to them. This way people could enjoy the evening in a full manner. Maddison had suggested to do it outside, in the garden. But it would be far too scandalous. The ball room gave the class this night needed.
After talking to half the party, I needed a break. Everybody wanted to have a small talk with the new Earl. I sneaked to grab myself champagne and observed my girlfriend speaking to my father. She looks absolutely breathtaking tonight. She truly makes my heart be full. Looking at the ring she gave me tonight makes me relive the moment all over again. Maddison has the habit of making me speechless, but this gesture is so much more than that. Understanding how important Edinburgh is to me and standing by my side through this all means a whole lot. My girlfriend is one of a kind. I don't think words can explain how much I love this woman and how much she means to me.
I walk toward them smiling at few people in the way. My girlfriend smiles as she sees me.
'What are you two conspiring?' I ask which makes them smile.
'Ohh, just the takeover of the world.' Maddison responds wrapping her arm around his own.
'Maddison was telling me how we will be in Paris together at the same time next month.' Dad answers. Oh, the Paris trip. For some reason, my stomach always turns when Maddison mentions this trip. It is probably just my neurotic self coming to life.
'Aunt Lily's birthday.' I say remembering why Dad is taking the trip. Harry and Khloe are staying in more because of Chistopher, so Khloe is making a case that Dad needs some rest. Specially because she is going back to doing events in this summer. Khloe said she would only go out and make events if my Dad was managing everything.
'And I was telling Theo that we should come back together.' Maddison says looking at me. She was getting tired of hearing me nagging about this trip. She knew this would be something that would calm me down.
'Great idea.' I say smiling at Maddison.
Maddison smirks at me before getting into another conversation. Karina comes along, looking incredible, smiling like a fool. Maddison and Karina have been trying to put an eraser in their past. Obviously I don't think Maddison will ever be able to fully forgive my sister. I know she is only trying to regain some contact with Karina because of me. I am looking at the long haul with Maddison and it means a lot to me she is really trying to, at least, be in speaking therms with Karina.
'What are you doing tomorrow?' I ask Karina. I have my first official event tomorrow as the Earl. People are expecting me and Maddison would attend this one together. Obviously. But as a royal standard, only engaged couples do events together.
