The news plays in front of me in the TV inside grandfather's office. I guess it is my office now, but in my mind it is still my grandfather's office. The last two days have been rough. The reporters are calling and people are talking. If my grandfather was alive, he would be very disappointed but he would be mostly angry. Jane's interview is what British tabloids die for; Bad blood between royals. No matter how modern the world is; People will always love royal gossip.
Taylor managed to get Jane to come to Scotland. Giving the interview breaks clearly the agreement grandfather made with Jane when she divorced Dad. I am so done dealing with Jane. So absolutely done. If I could, I would just send her back to New York and never allow her to return. The issue is that Jane is the one responsible for my sister. Until Karina is 21, which only happens in two years, Jane is Karina's legal guardian. The only reason why I am not cutting her off.
'Keith.' Karina says softly when she enters the office. I look up and see my sister. She has a sad expression. My sister did not take well what Jane said on television. I guess no person would take well her mother going on TV and speaking horrible things about your family.
'Hi. Do you need something?' I ask turning off the TV so I can pay attention on her. She sits down next to me in the couch and takes a deep breath.
'Actually, I do.' Karina tells me. I turn to look at her and she takes another deep breath.
'I read Mom's agreement following the divorce. I read it when I was like fifteen. One of the lines said Dad could never ask to be my legal guardian and in return, Mom could never ask to be your legal guardian.' Karina tells me. It doesn't surprise me that Jane let her read that. I had to sneak in on Dad's office at night and look for it. I think he still doesn't know I read it.
'Yes, I know.' I say still looking at her. I wonder where she wants to get with all of this.
'I don't want Mom to be my legal guardian anymore. She offended all of us in a way I will never be able to fully get over it. I realized that she is only using me to get what she wants.' Karina lets out at once. There's tears threating to fall of her eyes. I grab her hands and squeeze it. I know how she feels. My sister is getting the worst heartbreak ever.
'I am sorry, K. I really wish I could help you but Mom is your legal guardian. It would require a lot of fight for Dad to become your legal guardian and by then, you would already be 21.' I explain to her. It is very sad how Karina is trapped to Jane.
