Richard was pacing around his apartment feeling very conflicted, he wanted to call Danny but he was worried. He liked Danny, despite never liking a guy before, but he didn't know if Danny actually liked him back. He also didn't want to bother Danny, he did say he had two jobs and Richard didn't know when he got off work.
Part of him thought it would be better if he didn't call Danny since he seemed to be so busy. But part of him wanted to call, Danny wouldn't have given him his number if he didn't want him to call, right? Richard mentally sighed, he took a second to calm down before he took out his phone and dialed Danny's number.
He waited nervously while it rang, he really hoped Danny wasn't at work or trying to get some sleep. After a few seconds the call went through, "Hello."
Richard froze for a second before spoke, "Hey Danny, uh, it's Richard."
Danny actually sounded happier upon hearing who was calling him, "Oh hey, so you got your friend home?"
Richard smiled, "Yeah, he's safe, but his fiance wasn't too happy."
Danny laughed a little, "I hope you didn't say he got drunk at a strip club."
Richard felt his heart beat a little faster, "I'd be happy to tell you more if you're willing to go on a date with me."
Danny hummed, "Tomorrow's my day off, does that work?"
Richard's smile widened, "Yeah, that's perfect, is seven okay?"
"Yup, I don't have anything planned."
It took every bit of restraint Richard had to stay where he was on his couch, "Great, I'll text you where to meet me."
"Got it, I've got to go but I'll see you tomorrow."
"Bye." Richard hung up and he practically jumped off his couch, he felt like he just won the lottery or something. Richard shouted to his empty apartment, "I have a date, I have a date!"
He was ecstatic, he didn't think anything could go wrong in this moment, until he realized that he didn't know where to take Danny. Oh god everything went wrong, he quickly found his laptop and tried to find somewhere to go. He knew Danny didn't like loud places, he wanted to get to know Danny so it had to be somewhere they could talk.
He wanted to take Danny somewhere he would like, he did want to actually have a chance with Danny after all. Then he found somewhere they could go, he found a place close by where they could meet and texted Danny the location. He was really hoping this would go well, Danny seemed really nice and Richard didn't want to screw it up.
Meanwhile, when Danny's phone went off in his pocket he looked at it, Richard texted him. He couldn't help but smile when he saw it, after a minute or two he put him phone away and sighed. He was currently working at his first job, he worked at a hotel, originally he was supposed to be a server at the restaurant in the hotel.
But he eventually started doing a bit of everything, yes he did serve food in the restaurant but he didn't do that all the time. He helped with the laundry, the cooking, cleaning rooms, and even helped at the front desk. He was currently cleaning one of the rooms, on his own, and he was absolutely exhausted from working.
Thankfully he could do the work quickly, being half ghost with the ability to duplicate yourself came in handy. Within an hour the room was completely clean without a speck of dust to be found, he took his job seriously after all. He worked for another few hours before he could finally leave at six, he had to be at the club in an hour.
He stayed an extra two hours at the hotel working or he would have had more time before going to his second job. He quickly went to his, admittedly small and sad looking, apartment to get ready to go to the club. He took a quick shower, despite taking one that morning, and getting dressed before quickly grabbing something to eat.
He ran out the door and quickly walked to the club, he clocked in and took over the bar so the other guy could leave. Unfortunately for him it was a Friday which meant the bar was busier then usual and more people got drunk. On Fridays people that didn't have to work the next day came in and spend a decent amount of their paychecks.
Saturdays were busy too but he didn't work on Saturday very much so he didn't have to worry about the crowds. But he did have to work on Sunday and Sundays were arguably the worst days out of the week but he could handle it. He was making drinks for people all night, he didn't really have time to relax with all the orders he was getting.
He was supposed to get at least one break during his shift, for both of his jobs, but that almost never happened. There was so much to do that he couldn't take a break which tired him out even more then it should have. Then there's the kicker, every night he'd go out for at least an hour taking out petty criminals.
No one ever really saw him, they didn't know he existed, so they all assumed it was the hero in all the papers. Nightwing, the hero that showed up in Bludhaven a year or two ago, was who everyone thought was the culprit. Of course Danny was fine with that, actually he was happy everyone thought it was Nightwing and not him.
It made it easier to stay hidden, he didn't have to worry about people going after him or trying to find out who he is. The only thing he had to worry about was sleep deprivation, he didn't get as much sleep as he should. At least he had one thing to get him through the rest of the day, he had a date with Richard tomorrow.
Richard decided to go to the mountain, he knew the team didn't have a mission but he didn't have anything better to do. He quickly changed into his costume and went to the nearest zeta tube and walking through. As soon as he walked inside he saw Wally and Artemis, he was really hoping Wally didn't remember last night.
When the two saw him Wally waved at him, "Hey dude, what's up?"
Nightwing walked over and shrugged, "Nothing, I just got bored so I came here."
Wally nodded, Artemis decided to go talk to Batgirl and when she was gone Wally leaned closer to Nightwing. "So, what's going on with that bartender from last night?"
Nightwing somehow managed not to blush, he remembered Danny, oh god what if he told the others? He looked away, "I don't know what you're talking about."
Wally didn't look convinced, "Dude, he gave you his number, and I saw you flirting with him."
Nightwing thought about whether he should tell Wally or not before he groaned, "Fine, but if you tell anyone I will kill you."
Wally nodded, "I won't, so what happened?"
Nightwing mentally sighed, "I kind of called him and now I have a date with him tomorrow."
Wally looked a bit surprised, "Seriously, wait, why don't you want the others to know?"
Nightwing gave him a look that said 'are you really asking me that', he felt like it should be obvious. "I just met him and if the others find out they might want to meet him, I don't want to scare him away before I even have a chance with him. Could you imagine how Batman would react, let alone the others, and I don't want anyone to hate me because I like a guy."
Wally looked confused, "I can get that you don't want to scare the guy but no one would hate you for liking a guy."
Nightwing sighed, "Not everyone is accepting of relationships like this, just don't tell anyone, at least for now. At the very least I want to get to know him better and see if this can work at all, I don't want to make him uncomfortable."
Wally put up his hands in surrender, "Alright, I won't tell anyone, but I get to be the first one to meet him."
Nightwing rolled his eyes, "You already met him."
"When I was drunk, and I barely even talked to him."
Nightwing thought about it for a second, "Fine, but I get to decide when you meet him."
Wally smiled, "Deal." Nightwing mentally sighed, at least Wally seemed to be okay with the fact that he liked a guy, he just didn't know if the speedster would be able to keep his mouth shut.
