I had plans with Madi today because she is taking me out to "shop." Not for clothes, but for boys. I am relearning how to flirt. Joy.
I am looking at myself in the bathroom mirror, brushing my hair. I had dirty blonde hair thats almost four inches past my shoulders, and big blue eyes. I have decided to wear my black skinny jeans and a see-through lace top with my combat boots. Applying a little lip stick, I take a last look at the mirror and walk out of the bathroom.
I hear a horn in the front yard, Madi's dad is here. I grab my cell phone and run out the door, jumping into the back seat of the car.
"Well its nice to see your rare face again, " he says sofly, driving the car to the mall. Madi was sitting in the passenger seat and rolled her eyes towards him.
"Yeah, well its nice to be getting out of bed to actually do something," I replied coldly. He continued driving without replying.
Pulling into the parking lot, Madi gets out and opens my door. Her dad says goodbye and drives to work. Madi turns to me.
"Are you ready to begin the first part of your summer makeover? "
"Do I get a choice? "
"No. Now lets go, we have much to do."
We began walking to the entrance while she was starting to explain what we were going to do today.
"Okay, so the object of flirting is to find the personality of a guy and see if he's your type. You can never know the type of guy by just looking at them, so you have to find out."
As Madi continued explaining the importance of flirting, I drifted off to my own thoughts.
Of course you couldnt know your type because if someone who is not your type came along and you fell for them, then they could leave some serious damage marks or they could just be 'the one.' So you can't really have a type because not everyone you like is going to fit into your type.
"Catherine. Hello, are you even paying attention," Madi demanded, waving her hand in front of my face.
"Sorry, I spaced," I replied.
"Yeah, I could tell. So anyways, ready to start? I found the first test guy," she said, motioning to a cute guy leaning against one of the support beams in the middle of the mall square. He was in faded jeans and an ACDC t-shirt. He had a book in his hands, but I was too far away to read the title. Definetly cute.
"I really have no idea how to approach him," I told Madi.
"Go up to him and say hello. Ask him what he's reading because I'm sure you've already read it. Then just start a conversation; it is really not that hard."
I took a deep breath and looked at Madi. She pushed me in his direction and I started walking, turning back to give her a glare and she just laughed.
Walking towards him I felt nervous, really nervous. What if he didn't like me? What if I embaress myself? What if he has a girlfriend? What if I know his girlfriend?
I was so distracted in my own head that I wasnt watching where I was placing my feet and tripped. I put my hands out to catch myself, and was surprised when two arms caught me instead.
"You might want to be more careful when walking by yourself," said a deep, humored voice.
I looked up to be face to face with none other than my first target.
