Carson looked directly at me, then at Miles and stared at the floor.
Kayla looked from Carson to me and said, "Umm. I didnt know you'd still come."
"Well of course; I thought we were friends at that point," I replied.
She looked at me with sorry eyes and opened her mouth to speak.
"Don't, " I said before she had the chance to try and explain.
I turned to Miles and asked, "Would you like to go?"
"Whatever you want to do is fine by me; I just want to be there with you," he replied softly.
Carson looked up at him and cleared his throat. Miles stiffened and tried to move forward, but I pushed him back. They were glaring at each other when Miles put his arm around my waist and pulled me into his side. He leaned his head down and whispered in my ear, "Do you wanna dance?"
I looked at him and nodded before he pulled me to the door.
"Happy birthday Kayla," I said before going with Miles to the dance floor.
