The Tale of Growing Up

Little tiny fingers

Curl around the cotton blanket

Curious eyes glance from one corner to the next

Figuring out how everything works.

Giggles bounce down the halls

As you scurry along

A friend there to greet you

They will always be there.

Pencils and paper

Backpack and lunch

It's time to learn your ABC's

And make a friend or two.

Schedules and periods

Everything's getting more intense

You never have to worry, though

Your friends will have your back.

High school's now here

The time to try new things

The time to figure yourself out

Your friends will start to come and go.

College

Boy time has flown by

You're living on your own now

No mommy to protect you.

Your first job

So many new responsibilities

Maybe now's the time to fall in love

And make some new memories.

The wedding bells are ringing

The handsome groom awaits

Nerves will start to kick in

But you're ready for your fate.

The most joyous day of your life

You hold your daughter in your arms

She wraps her tiny precious fingers

Around your own.

You watch them grow up so quickly

You can't believe your eyes

Boy how time

Is still flying by.

You sit now on your porch

Looking out on a sunny day

Pain strikes with the little movements

So you just sit and think.

Think of the wonderful life you lived

And how it went by so quick

You wish you could relive it all again

But you wouldn't change a thing.
