Three Years Later
I sat across from Matt, who was doing a suduku in the newspaper and smoking his pipe, sending a long trail of grey snaking around the room. I had convinced him to tidy his house up a bit; there was no longer clutter on every surface. A lot had happened in the past three years. Matt was, by then, my legal guardian. He was like my own father; strict when he needed to be. I grew to respect him as a person, though I could never love him as a father. It just didn't feel right.
My body had begun to age again too. I now appeared fifteen though in reality I was two hundred and fifteen.
I rarely left the house, as so not to cause suspicion. After all, anyone who saw a random fifteen year old who didn't attend school would immediatly smell a rat. Or ghost. Of course, I didn't need school, as when me and Taiga got bored we had sat in lessons and studied along with the human kids. It had made us feel more... Alive.
But I got bored a lot in the house, and would gaze out of the window at the other people my age (kind of) and wish I could go out.
A girl saw my looking out of the window once. She waved at me, and I waved back, but Matt saw and boarded up my window so no-one would see me. Then my room was always dark, and I only went in there to sleep.
I watched as Matt blew out a puff of smoke, before placing the pipe down, folding the paper neatly and turning to me. I sat up in the armchair I was slouched.in when I saw he wanted to speak.
'Ryuuhei, I've been thinking...' He began, 'You always look so bored lately. You were fine living with just the two of us to begin with, but once the novelty of being alive wore off you've been so dull. I think its time for you to go to school.'
'W..what?' I stammered, shocked and pleasantly surprised.
'You heard me,' he chuckled, 'I want you to attend boarding school.'
'Boarding School!?' I cried out. There was no way I was leaving this house.
Matt took a brochure from his pocket and handed it to me. It showed a picture of a huge red brick building, and the words Little Brook Unisex Boarding School printed at the top. Beneath was written the words 'Not your average school' and 'striving for excellence'. Pfft.
'There is no way in hell I'm going to boarding school.' I hissed, but only recieved another chuckle.
'I've already booked you a place there. You're starting tomorrow. Now, go get your stuff packed up.'
With that he stood and left, leaving me sitting there, shocked, before reading back through the brochure.
The headteacher was Mr Loin. I wished his name was Sir. Loin. That would have been... Funny.
There were many pictures of students. Great, they had to wear uniform. It consisted of a black blazer and trousers, a white shirt and a blue and purple tie. Not too shabby.
Maybe this school wouldn't be too bad.
I headed to my room and began to pack. I would miss its red walls and white floor, the small but comfy bed and all my possessions, like my complete collection of 'Death Note' mangas. (Yes, somehow I had ended up watching and reading anime and manga).
Once I had crammed most of my clothes into a bag, Matt appeared and handed me the uniform.
'Try it on. Oh, and you'll need to tie your hair back in lessons, its a rule there.'
I sighed. Matt had allowed me to grow my hair our, and now it reached my waist in an ebony cascade. I reached for a band and tied it in a high ponytail, before pulling on my uniform.
