Punishments

I hugged my knees to my chest ang glanced up at Ms Blake and Mr Loin, who sat in chairs opposite me. Ms Blake had ordered me to the English hub and called Mr Loin, who had arrived within minutes.

"What do you mean, forgetting them?" He asked for the third time, but I didn't speak for fear of slipping out my secret. Realising that I wasn't going to talk, he asked Ms Blake to leave, stood and locked the classroom door, drew the blinds closed and sat back down. I felt my breathing quicken with anticipation.

"You know, Matt told me you were special, and to keep and eye on you," he sighed, "But I don't know what he means."

"He won't tell you anything other than that, its best just to do your job and stay out of it," I muttered, barely audibly. This earned a hearty laugh from him, and also a detention.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOo

I walked back to class, angered and annoyed. Ms Blake raised her eyebrows at my sour expression, but stayed silent. Katia was also quiet, for which I was greatful. Even she knew not to push it too far.

The lesson ended and it was break, and as the detention was after school I went outside into a secluded area of the campus and punched the bricks, scraping skin and drawing blood.

"Taiga, I will not forget you," I whispered, leaning my head against the wall, picturing him best I could in my head, "I will not forget you..."

"Hey!" I groaned as I heard Ethan's voice behind me, "Are you alright?"

Not turning around, I nodded, "Yeah, I'm fine,"

He saw my bleeding knuckles and spun me around to face him, "Ryuuhei... what's wrong?"

I ground my teeth and looked away. His hands were firmly planted on my shoulders; he wasn't leaving until he got an answer.

"You wouldn't believe me even if I told you. If I was even allowed to tell you," I laughed bitterly, "Its in both of our interests for you not to know whats wrong with me right now."

His face now had a confused expression, "w...what? What could possibly be that bad. I though we were friends... aren't we meant to tell each other things?"

I felt a strange pang of guilt, and sighed.

"Fine. I will tell you... a small part. But you must promise not the freak out, and not to call me crazy. Also... telling you will hurt me."

Ethan nodded, confusion replaced with curiousity.

"You know about my family being murdered. Thats... obvious. You know about me being stabbed. Thats also obvious. However.." I paused, breath shaking, "You don't know how I survived ten stab wounds to the chest, not to mention the blood loss from my back. You see, the truth is..." I fought to control my breathing,  urging the words from my mouth, "I didn't survive. I'm dead."

He waited a few moments for this to sink in, and when it did Ethan's eyes grew wide, before he burst out laughing, "Don't be stupid!" he laughed, "there's no way you're dead!"

"Actually I was resurrected three years ago," I corrected.

"What!? You're crazy"

I sighed heavily, "Told you you'd say that,"

Ethan shook his head, "What... how...?"

I didn't reply. A huge headache hit me like a bus and my knees gave way. I felt blood drip from my mouth, from my nose, my ears, my eyes. It was as if someone was driving nails through my skull. I was vaguely aware of the bell ringing.

"Dude you're bleeding!" Ethan cried, startled, "You're bleeding from the eyes! Oh god you're crying blood!"

OoOooOoOoOoOoOoOoOo

Me and Matt sat at a table. It was a week since I had been resurrected.

"Why can't people know?" I demanded for the umpteenth time. The old man sighed, pushing his glasses up his nose and stroking his beard.

"Ryuuhei... there are people who don't agree with my research and me not telling others how to resurrect. Of course, this is for the better as there are some who'd be better left dead," he began, "however, they'll stop at nothing to find out the truth. Also... it says in the book that if the resurrected tells another the truth then they'll be punished. Lets leave it at that, shall we?"

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOo

I staggered to my feet only to collapse again, vomiting blood as my body convulsed. The worst part: I refused to fall unconscious. It was all I could do not to start screaming with pain.

I saw through reddened vision Ethan turn to get help, but I reached out and gripped his ankle with a strength I didn't think I possessed. My nails dug into his flesh as the pain worsened, my body shaking as if I was having a seizure.

"Don't," I heaved as more blood erupted from my mouth, "Don't go." He nodded and stayed still, unsure what to do to help.

One final wave of agony hit me, enough to knock every last ounce of strength from me and force me to let out a small scream. Then, it was over.

I let my hand fall limp against Ethan's shoe and closed my eyes, breath shaking. The pain had gone as quickly as it appeared. Sitting up, I saw that Ethan had crouched beside me, eyes wide and in shock.

"What... what just happened?" he asked quietly. I glared at him.

"I told you that telling you would hurt me, but I didn't think it would be that bad. That's the punishment for telling someone the truth and the more people that know, the worse it gets,"

He didn't say anything after that, instead producing a few tissues from his pocket. I used them to wipe some of the blood that had tried onto my face, but it would take more than that to get it off. Ethan, shaken from what had just happened, even more so than me, sat down.

"We're really late," I noted, glancing at my phone and seeing it was twenty minutes since the lesson had started, "That... lasted for twenty minutes?"

He nodded, and I looked at the small pool of blood where I'd spent most of the... punishment. Shuddering, I stood up and pulled Ethan with me.

"Come on, we might as well skip now. I know a place we can go."

This returned the mischevious grin to the other boy's face, "I never thought you'd ask!"

I led him to the stream I had visited that morning and crouched beside the water, washing the blood from my face as Ethan lay back in the sunlight.

"I can believe you found this place," he smiled, "Its awesome!"

I nodded, but then the hair on the back of my neck stood up as I felt an extra pair of eyes on me. Spinning around, I saw a man in the distance, black clothes, black hat and dark green glasses with a mouth piece. I wasn't very good at lip reading but the words he said then chilled me to the core.

"We've got him,"
