Taiga stared out through the crowds of resurrectees, searching for that one face he knew should have been there. They had been gathered in a small wood after being broken out under the cover of night. Now they all sat huddled together, with his brother's guardian, Matt, handing water and food to everyone. A girl with dark brown ponytails stood nearby, he learned her name was Katia. Beside her, a boy by the name of Ethan paced back and forth.
"He should be out by now..." He grumbled worriedly, before turning to the small boy, "Hey, Taiga... do you know where your brother is?"
Averting his gaze and hugging the blanket he was wrapped in closer, Taiga remembered when he was beat up before them all, shudders creeping up his spine.
"He... he wasn't brought back to his cell, I know that much." He thought back to when a group of men had entered his room and told me him that his brother was going to die very soon.
"Dammit!" The girl cried out, startling the others, "Ryuu is still in that place but we're just sitting around out here being useless!"
"You must be patient," Matt stepped towards them, "I have sent someone very trustworthy to find him,"
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Heaving myself inch by inch, I made my way along the cold floor. With my legs dragged out uselessly behind me, and my right arm hanging limp at my side, I slowly made progress along the floor by dragging myself, leaving behind a trail of red. My strength was waning, all senses screaming to stop, to rest- to die, yet I carried on to some unforseeable goal. There was a way out, if only I could find it.
Pausing the catch my breath, I rolled over to stare at the harsh bar lights that lined the ceiling. Dots danced in front of my eyes and I set off again, gritting my teeth and shuffling along. It seemed that dehydration really did weaken resurectee's healing abilities.
"Oh! A worm!" A voice behind me sneered and I rested my head against the floor, feeling footsteps coming towards me, "You idiot. You're going to die no matter how far you crawl!"
Unable to speak for fear of faltering and breaking down there and then, I continued pulling myself along. A laugh came and there was pressure on my back- the person was standing on me.
"Please.. It really hurts!..." Choking out the words, tears began streaming down my face, "I want to go home..." Teeth clenched and my eyes tightly shut, my body was rattled with sobs, "I just want to go home..."
Feeling the weight on my back lighten, and then vanish altogether, I breathed out shakily.
"Don't make me go all soppy on you!" I realised that it was a woman speaking and rolled over to see her. She was tall and slender with a thin face and a short brown bob. She wore a black jacket rimmed with green and skinny trousers with black leather boots. Her dark eyes gazed down at me with disgust.
"W...Who-"
"I am known as Y, vice-commander of the Serpents." She snapped, interupting me, "who are you?"
"I am Ryuu Yoshida. Also known as Ryuuhei Davidson. I was resurrected three years ago." I replied, forcing myself up into a sitting position. A smile crossed her face.
"Oh, you were the little rat who escaped!" she giggled, clapping her hands together, "That would explain the knee injuries and the arm!"
Glancing down at myself, I nodded, before meeting her gaze, "I guess I'm going to die again soon, aren't I?"
The smile left her face and she looked up at the ceiling, "What is it like, to die?"
The question startled me, but I answered anyway, "There is no way of explaining it. Its like..." I broke away coughing, "Its like a burning pain, but... I can't really say what its like. Its all hazy."
