I woke up the next morning and got dressed and ate some breakfast and then I was off for school. When I walked in the school and around a corner I saw a one championship trophy and with that trophy was pictures of five kids. I had no idea who they were, but as I leaned in I read the words written on it, it said: You always kept us smiling when we were down and we will never forget what you've done for us and we will always love you. Rest in Peace.
They must have died, but who were they? I noticed in some pictures they were wearing football jerseys, so they must have been on the team. I also noticed in one of the pictures I saw Luke with one of the players and in my head I was thinking that he must have been really close to him. My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the warning bell. I rushed off to my English class and sat behind Luke. He turned around and said, "You have a really nice arm."
"Thanks." I said smiling.
"I think you'll make an excellent tribute to the team."
Before I could say anything the teacher walked in and said, "Good morning class, everyone get the books out underneath your desk and open to page 13." We all opened our books and before I knew it the day was over and it was time for practice. I started walking down to the fields to meet the coaches and ask them where I change at and they told me to go change in the equipment room which was pretty big. I went to change and then made it out on the field where everyone else was. I got in line with everyone else and did the drills they did. We finally started doing throwing passes and I did amazing at them. I threw perfectly at each one; I have my dad to thank for that.
When practice was over I tried to rush home before it got to late to where I couldn't see anything. As I was trying to leave I felt hands on me and I let out a shriek because I was scared and it was just Luke. I felt my heart drop as his hands touched my wrist. I looked him in the eyes and he said, "Sorry I scared you. I didn't mean to."
"It's okay I just get scared really easily. Did you want something?"
"I was just wondering if you wanted to go out to eat with me?"
"Yeah sure. When?"
"Well I was hoping you would like to go now."
"Oh well I guess that's fine."
"Well come on. I'll drive."
I followed him and we drove in silence all the way there. When we got there it looked like a whole bunch of people were already there and half of them was from the team. We walked in and found some of them and sat down. Luke asked, "Are you hungry or do you want anything?"
"Yeah I just want an ice tea."
"Alright then I'll go order." Luke left to go order and I just sat there with the team. When he came back and sat down we all just talked for a while and then I heard this noise coming from outside and I looked outside and saw a group of guys in two cars. That's when everyone got up and walked outside. Luke was the first one out and he walked up to the head leader who was tall with shaggy brown hair and brown eyes. Luke went up to him and asked, "What do you think your doing here? This is our hang out and on our turf. So you should just leave now."
"I don't think that's going to happen. We just came to tell you that we can't wait to play you and win. Oh we also heard you have a new quarterback who's a girl."
"Yeah we do actually and she's better than you if I do say so myself. Now leave Collin." So his name is Collin and he must be their rivals. I can't believe Luke actually told him that I mean what if I'm not better than him and I make a complete fool of myself.
"Oh really, is she here?"
"As a matter of fact, she is." He left to come get me and grabbed me by my arm and brought me in front of him and said, "Here's our new quarterback."
"This little thing is your new quarterback, but she's too pretty to be a quarterback." Someone actually said I was pretty, but then he said, "You should just give up now and become a cheerleader since football is not a sport for little girls."
That's when I lost it, so I took a step closer and said, "Who are you calling a little girl because I don't see a little girl here. I may not look like much, but trust me I wouldn't underestimate me. I can throw a powerful punch."
He just started laughing as he said, "Wow a little feisty I see. I like it. Maybe we should go out sometime."
That's when Luke stepped in front of me and said, "I think it's time for you to leave now."
"Well I just hope your ready to lose when you play us. You haven't beat us since your brother played us and now since he's nowhere to be found I don't think you can beat us. Oh and quarterback princess hit me up sometime so we can go out."
"I rather not." I said with a serious look.
Then he left, but before he left he said, "Your going to regret that." That kind a scared me I had no idea what he was going to happen to me, but I was pretty scared.
I turned around to Luke and said, "I think it's time for me to go now."
"I think your right. Come on." He lead me back to his car and drove me home.
He stopped in front of my house and I asked, "Who were they back there?"
"They go to James Polk high school and they are our rivals. We beat them every year except for last year"
"So is that why he said since your brother was there. What happened to him?"
It looked liked I just hit a nerve in him because he started clinching up and he changed the subject by saying, "I think that's another story for another day. You handled yourself well back there."
"Well you know I'm use to it with everyone making fun of me for being a girl quarterback, so I've got to lean how to stand up for myself. Well I better get going now."
"Okay, well I had fun with you tonight. I hope we can do this again sometime."
"Yeah sure sounds good. Oh and just so you know if you ever need anything or need someone to talk to I'm always here." And with that I left and went inside. I changed and went straight to sleep. Today was a longest and interesting day, but I kind a liked it. Especially the time spent with Luke which was amazing.
