22. Princesses and Dragons

Everyone rushed after Maleficent and into the next room. When you got through the door you saw her clutching at her wounds, doubled over in pain. In front of her stood Riku, but the dark armor he had been wearing earlier was back and looked doubly strong. He smirked as you all entered.

"Is that--?" Donald stared at the black and blood red weapon in his hand.

"Yes. A keyblade," Riku held out the weapon. His voice had changed. Something dark seemed to be harmonizing with his voice.

"But unlike yours," Riku continued, "this keyblade holds the power to unlock people's hearts. Allow me to demonstrate."

He whipped around and shoved the weapon through Maleficent's chest. She cried out. A light emanated from the collision with clouds of blue and purple surrounding it and growing.

"Now, open your heart. Surrender it to the darkness!" Riku shouted. "Become darkness itself!"

As Riku drew his blade back, he started to step into a dark portal.

"No, Riku!" You and Sora both lunged forward. You stuck out your keyblade, attempting to block Riku's path.

"Get out of my way," his double-voice told you and Sora.

"This isn't you," you told him. "Whatever is inside of you- whatever is using you right now, you need to stop."

"You know nothing," Riku snarled. "They have given me more power than I could ever imagine."

"What about Kairi?" Sora asked.

The scowl on Riku's face faltered.

You stepped forward, putting your body between Riku and the portal. "What about me, Riku? What about Sora and I? You've hurt us, and you need to stop."

Riku's face calmed for a moment as he looked into your eyes. The veins in his forehead showed themselves as he seemed to be fighting with himself.

"This is it! This power!" Maleficent shouted from behind Riku and he turned his head to look at her.

You followed his gaze and found her growing in size as a sickly green light surrounded her.

"Darkness..." she laughed maniacally, "The true darkness!"

Green flames enveloped her and grew to the ceiling.

"Ah!" Riku shouted, holding a hand to his head. He stormed past you and into the portal.

"No!" you called out after him, but Sora grabbed your arm.

"[Name], we've got something bigger to worry about!"

You turned back around and found in Maleficent's place a giant black dragon. Its mouth and eyes glowed yellow and it was surrounded by glowing green embers. As you stared at it, it knelt down and roared at you. Its breath was like acid. It burned your throat and made your eyes water.

"Move, [Name]!" you heard Leon shout and you quickly did as you were told.

You rolled to the side just as Maleficent's front claw stomped to the ground where you had been standing. The ground shook as you tried to regain your footing and you stumbled. You watched a torrent of green flame spew from the dragon's open mouth and onto the ground in front of her. Your friends mostly jumped out of the way, except for Goofy, who used his shield to block the attack. When the flames flickered out the paint on his shield was gone and the metal was red hot.

"Uh oh," he said, looking at the shield.

Maleficent roared again and attempted to snap at Goofy, but he shoved his shield into her mouth so that she couldn't bite down. She shrieked at him, but dropped the shield. Goofy laughed nervously and looked around for any sign of direction.
