29. New Enemies, Old Friends

Yuffie held onto you tightly. "You have to find us again!"

She didn't want to let go, but the ground started to shake and she was forced to step away from you.

"I will. I will!" she heard you reply. You looked determined as you said the words. Suddenly, your expression changed as the ground cracked and you stumbled. You looked back up at her and the group of people around her, scared.

"Wait!" Leon shouted to you.

"Dammit. There's something you need to know!" Cloud tried to move forward. Yuffie watched as Tifa put a hand on his arm to stop him from going after you.

Yuffie turned back to you and watched as your island seemed to break away in slow motion and fall away from the group. Before you were completely out of sight, Yuffie heard Leon yell.

"[Name]! I will find you again!"

In the same moment, Cloud called out, "Be safe! I will see you again!"

Yuffie looked over with a lifted eyebrow. Quickly after that, the ground shook again and they were thrown into darkness.

Yuffie woke up in a small bedroom. Looking out the window, she recognized the broken but familiar landscape. With a smile she rushed out of the room and down some stairs, shouting, "We're home!"

Cid, Tifa, and Leon were gathered in the living room of the home, talking quietly. Yuffie's shouts woke up Cloud, who had been the last to wake. Another glance out the front window showed Yuffie that there were people waking up all over the town. Some were even starting to clean up the mess from Maleficent's attacks. She spun back to face the room and smiled as her hands landed on her hips. "We've got a lot of work to do."

Cloud ran a hand over his face, still trying to wake up. Part of him wondered why he had ended up here. He thought he would've been sent back to Olympus. A large part of him knew he didn't belong there anymore, but he didn't think destiny would feel the same way. His mind landed on you and for a fleeting moment he wondered why you weren't here with them. But, no, he reminded himself. Destiny Islands would always be your home. Cloud glanced over at Leon. The other man looked deep in thought.

Cid cleared his throat. He put a smile on his face and a hand on the shoulders of the persons next to him, Tifa and Leon. "Yuffie's right. We've got some work to do. Don't worry, even if that darkness took my ship, we'll fix up another and make sure [Name] and Sora are alright." He glanced at Cloud and Leon for a moment longer than the others and Cloud knew the mechanic had caught on.

Cloud sighed and said, "I'm taking a shower," before leaving the room.

Tifa rolled her eyes as he walked away. "I guess he's back to being grumpy."

Yuffie snorted. "I told you all and you didn't believe me!"

"Told us all what?" Cid asked, pretending not to know what she was talking about.

"I think Leon knows what I'm talking about," the short girl smiled and wiggled her eyebrows.

"I have no idea," Leon replied, sounding bored. "Let's start making a list. We're on the edge of the city now, I think we need to start rebuilding on the interior. Create a central location for people to come to for supplies and housing."

Yuffie deflated a little.

Tifa nodded. "That's a good idea. I think first we need to go out and tell everyone what the plan is. I'm sure it's disorienting, waking up back here out of the blue."
