A/N: the song is Sun Comes Up (feat. James Arthur) by Rudimental. Not trying to take credit.

The next morning came without much prompting. Lance awoke to the annoying, blaring sound of his alarm. He had been able to sleep well that night though, so he decided to get a good start to his day.

Reaching over and turning his alarm off, Lance goes into the bathroom to freshen up with a quick shower. Stripping out of his clothes, he sets the controls on the cool wall to the big, smooth rectangular box and picks up his iPod. Pidge had batched up a castle-ready charger for it a few nights ago, and he was ready for music again.

Scrolling, he comes upon his 'Wake Up' Playlist. He clicks shuffle and heads into the shower. Lyrics start to fill the air.

I wonder, maybe they'd never find me

Standing in the shower, he pondered that with a growing my clear mind as the water came down.

I've been waitin' such a long, long, long time to feel it
Swallowed by the waters around me
Though I took so many wrong, wrong, wrong turns to see it, woah

Lance could resonate with that - he had made a lot of wrong turns in his life. And sometimes, it wasn't always him that had paid the price... Sigh. This song made him a little sad, but it was still one of its favorites.

But I dance through the blisters at night
And I laughed 'til I cried and cried and
I ran 'til my feet couldn't run no more

He still put it on his morning shuffle. It had a good beat and talked about taking effort in such situations. Soapy liquid starts shooting gently through the holes in the walls. Lance starts scrubbing, humming along to the chorus.

And I sang 'til my lungs were burnin'
'Til I know I'm alive, alive, yeah
I'll sit 'til I can't hear words no more

It was a bit ironic, as he probably wouldn't see Milky Way's Sun for a while, but the concept was there. The concept of trying again, that everything could be okay. Just what he needed in the morning, even out in space as a warrior.

Suddenly the sun comes up
And I feel my love floodin' back again, yeah

Pressing a button on the wall, Lance gums as he waits for the shower to shift gears. Then steamy spurts of water come spraying out of the shower head. Lance tilts his head back and lets the hot water run; letting his mind just listen to the music.

Suddenly the sun comes up
And the dark is gone
We made it to the dawn and I don't miss you anymore
When the sun comes up
I can feel my love comin' back again

This song was one he was introduced to on his old team actually. And though it was bittersweet to hear after so much time, Lance was glad his iPod worked: helped keep his sanity. There were some songs that just required all of Lance's attention - and thus stopped him from feeling the emotions he wanted to ignore.

After Lance feels the soap completely leave his mop of hair, he presses another button and the water ends with a whoosh. The sound of water droplets underlie the song as Lance opens the semi-transparent shower door and steps out into the coolness of the bathroom. Humming to the rest of the song, Lance finishes his routine without trying to fully think about the day ahead. The song ends and Lance faces the silence, knowing he had to hurry now that he was ready to get dressed.
