I sat in the audience on the horrible plastic chairs with my family surrounding me.  I was waiting, waiting for my cousin to graduate so we could leave.  I didn't hate my cousin, in fact, Kyle and I are quite close.  It just, that there is so much more I'd like to be doing with my summer than watching my cousin graduate high school.

I had my iPod on and was listening to Pink Floyd, I couldn't see Kyle at all, although he should be soon as almost all of his class had already graduated.  I knew he was probably busy trying to get his date for tonight.  This girl had been turning him down all year.  He knew about the no dating rule, and he still chose to persist.

I live in a family of Aces.  We are basically human, but with one twist.  We don't just get married and have kids and a family, we imprint.  Our soul looks for someone who is perfect for us and chooses them to be ours.  After this we ascend, and are given powers which help us to protect our families.  Although, over the past twenty years the imprints haven't been working and nobody knows why.  This is why our clan leader, my dad, has told our clan that we aren't allowed to date, as this would be unfair if we had a partner and kids and then happened to imprint.

"There he is!" I heard from beside me and turned to see Maria.  "Caleb!  Theres Kyle!"  I smiled at her as we all got up to cheer for him.  There were a few whoops and hoots from his parents, although we mainly just cheered.  Kyle being Kyle made a big show on stage by flexing his non-existat muscles.  Maria was jumping up and down fratically.  Maria is my neice, shes seven.  She wasn't born within an imprint, since they hadn't been working.  Jen, my sister, had a bad experience at a club with her friends whilst she was in college and fell pregnant.  After moping about in her room for nine months, Maria was born.  I've never seen her happier than the day that she held her for the first time.

I didn't really pay much attention to the rest of the graduation.  I didn't know anybody else, so there didnt seem to be any point.  Kyle walked over to use and Gran attacked him with a huge hug.

"Gran don't!" Kyle exclaimed, trying to get out of the embrace.

"Silly boy," she muttered to herself, but released him none the less.

"Dad, I'm going to a graduation party tonight," Kyle told Uncle Max.

"After your party is over and not before," he was warned.  Kyle just smiled and nodded.

As everybody started making their way back to their cars I fell behind to talk to him.  "You got the girl?" I asked.

"I think so yeah, she agreed."

I sighed.  "If anyone finds out you'll be in trouble."

"I know, but she's worth the risk cuz, seriously she's incredible."

"Well I would think she is, you've been going on about her non-stop for over a year now."

"Trust me, she is," he grinned walking over to Uncle Max's car.  "See you at the house."

"Ok," I muttered.  I got onto my motorbike and started the drive back to Uncle Max's house.  This was going to be a long night..

I hope you enjoyed the first chapter :)
