After Hiccup had celebrated his triumph with all of Berk, said goodnight to his mother, Toothless, and Astrid, he was exhausted. He didn't like to show it, but after his father died it really took a lot out of him to have Toothless under control of Drago. Hiccup took off his riding gear and stood in front of his full length mirror in just his underwear. He stared at his slender body and sighed. No matter what everyone said, he didn't feel right for chief. But, it was his duty and he had to make his father proud. The thought of his father brought tears to his eyes and a deep pain spread across his body from the ache in his heart. Hiccup fell onto his bed in a fetal position and cried himself to sleep underneath the blankets.

Then, he was suddenly awakened hours later by the sound of heavy footsteps in his room. Hiccup sat up and saw a slight figure in the pure darkness of his room. The person stepped forwards into the bright light of the full moon and Hiccup saw that it was Astrid. He let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding and relaxed. Astrid smirked at him. Hiccup looked at her out of her gear so she was just in pants, a red shirt, and her furry boots. All the string and fur to protect her arms was gone and Hiccup thought she had never looked more beautiful. Then, he noticed that he was only in his underwear and that Astrid had snuck into his room and that it was the middle of the night.

"What in Thor's name are you doing here, Astrid?! My mom's going to find you and I'll be locked up in my room for a month!" Hiccup paniced.

Astrid smiled and rolled her eyes. "Hiccup, you're 20, and -"

"And that doesn't matter!" He interrupted in a whisper shout.

Astrid pouted for a moment and said, "Well, gee. If you want me to go, just say the word and I'll leave." She took a step towards the window.

"NO!" Hiccup thrust a hand out to stop her. She laughed and came to sit on his bed beside him.

"I mean... uhh," He paused to clear his throat and continued, "What kind of gentleman would I be if I just sent you home after you took the time to come all the way over here just to see me?" Even in the cold and darkness, Hiccup could feel his face getting redder by the second.

Astrid chuckled lightly and kissed his cheek. Then she said, "You would be more polite than I hoped."

He smiled, but quickly replaced it with a furrowed brow. The fact that his dad was gone didn't hurt any less. Tears sprung back in Hiccup's eyes. He tried to fight them down for Astrid's sake, he didn't want her to worry about him, but he failed and a wracked sob escaped him. He hunched his body and kneeled in his bed.

"Hiccup!" Astrid placed a cold hand to his back. "Are you okay?" She asked.

Hiccup shook his head as another sob emitted from his lips. Astrid sat on the floor and place her hands on his knees. Then, she reached a hand up and touched underneath Hiccups' chin.

"Hey. Hiccup, look at me." He didn't respond.

"Hiccup! Look at me!" Astrid forced him to look up.

"It's all my fault, Astrid," He said quietly, " If I was a real viking this wouldn't have happened. If I could have just been able to kill a dragon five years ago my dad would still be alive right now." Hiccup look deep into Astrids' eyes. Pain contorting his face.

She shook her head and replied, "Listen to me, Hiccup. You save us. If you didn't change the way things were around here, your dad would have died because of a dragon anyways. You have to know that. If none of this had happened, you would have never met your mother. You and I would have never have happened if you didn't take me for that ride on Toothless five years ago. You would have died fighting dragons. Nothing would have changed and eventually we would have all died. Do you remember how horrible it was five years ago? Dragons stealing all the sheep and burning all the houses down." Astrid held his hands, trying to get him to listen.

"But then I wouldn't be alone right now! Astrid, I miss him so much. We never had the best relationship but I loved him and now he's just gone and I'm all alone with this responsibility of being chief. I can't do it, Astrid! I can't do it all alone! I found a missing part of me but another part was ripped out." Another sob shook through his body and he collapsed onto the floor and into Astrids' shoulder, crying.

Astrid fought down tears of her own. She took Hiccups' shoulders and pushed him away. His head hung in defeat.

"Hiccup, listen to me." Again, he didn't respond. Astrid shook his shoulders gently and he looked her in the eye. "Listen to my words. You are not alone in this. You have your mother. You have Toothless. You have me. You are not alone." Hiccup began to protest but Astrid took his face in her hands.

"YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I am here for you! I am here!" Astrid touched their foreheads together. Hiccup looked away, tears still streaming down his face. "No! Hiccup, listen to me! I am here for you. I love you! I do and I promise you that I always will!"

Hiccup turned away from her, kneeling and sobbing on the floor. Astrid wrapped an arm around his waist and clung to his back. Now she was crying with him. She was afraid she was going to lose him.

"Hiccup..." she whispered, her voice cracking, "Hiccup, please listen to me. I love you so much. I'm here for you. I always will be. I promise." Astrid pleaded.

Hiccup turned back to her, tears shining in his beautiful green eyes. He kissed Astrid frantically. She responded immediately, desperate to let him know she wouldn't leave him. He picked her up and they fell to his bed in a pile of limbs and tears. The kiss stopped, but they moved closer to each other. Their legs were tangled together with the sheets and they were clinging together as if their bodies were fused and they couldn't ever be separated. Hiccup cried into Astrid for what seemed like an eternity. Eventually, his breathing slowed and he seemed to be fast asleep. Astrid moved his hair away from his face and kissed his forehead where his makr as chief had been. Then, she skillfully untangled herself from Hiccup. Astrid stood up and was just about to put her boots on when a hand reached out and grabbed her wrist. She looked down at the bed where Hiccup laid, his eyes wide and pleading.

"Please don't leave me. Sleep with me," he whispered.

Astrid paused a moment and then widened her eyes and then said, "Shouldn't we wait until we're married or something. So it's not a middle of the night and sleep deprived decision?"

Hiccup's face went bright red and he face planted inot the pillow. He said something but the pillow muffled and garbled his words.

"Sorry, what?" Astrid asked.

Hiccup looked up at her with an embarrassed smile and said, "I meant just sleep. Nothing else. Just stay with me, please. I don't want to be alone."

Astrid grinned and got into bed with him. Hiccup covered her up with the sheets and she nestled her head into his chest. He wrapped her arms around her and rested his head on the top of her head. Astrid smiled to herself and traced a finger from his throat and down the line between his pectoral muscles and down between his flat stomache. His body wasn't built like a typical vikings' but Astrid didn't care. She like the way he was still strong without being beefy. She loved him because he was amazing and talented, not because he could split a rock in half. Hiccup squirmed from her gentle touch. He pulled back and stared down at her, smiling.

"What are you doing?" He said.

Astrids' blue eyes twinkled in the moonlight. She kissed where his throat met his breast bone and looked up at him again, smirking. Hiccup rolled his eyes and then flipped Astrid around so she was facing away from him. Hiccup had one arm underneath her and one above, encasing her in his slender arms. He rested his head in the crook of her neck. Astrid sighed sleepily. Then, Hiccup lifted his head and lightly kissed Astrids' neck.

"I love you so much. Thank you for staying with me. Now go to sleep, m'lady." Hiccup whispered into Astrids' shell-like ear.

She smiled and after Hiccup had settled back into her neck again, they both slept soundly into the morning light.
