Hiccup had the best sleep he had had in a long time. Having Astrids' warm body to curl up next to felt heavenly, almost as if he were sleeping on a cloud. That morning, he woke up to the sound of something pounding on the door of his bedroom. He sat up quickly and looked at his girlfriend, still sound asleep next to him. Panicking, he picked her up and put her on the floor on the side of the bed where she would hopefully be unseen by whoever was at the door.

"Just a second!" Hiccup called out as he rushed to put on some pants. Then, he opened his door to see his mother, Valka.

She looked at him suspiciously for a moment and tried to look around the room. After Hiccup attempted to look as casual as possible without Valka seeing Astrid's slumbering body on the far side of the room, Valka said, "Dragon training in twenty minutes. Get ready." and then left Hiccup to his own devices.

Hiccup sighed and groan as he flopped back onto his bed with his head hanging over the edge so he could see Astrid. She was still sleeping, despite having just been shoved off the bed. He smiled down at her and brushed her bangs away from her face. She looked younger while sleeping. Almost as if she was immortal, like a goddess. Hiccup cupped Astrids' cheek in his hand and stroked it with his thumb. A small moan of tiredness escapes as her eyes flutter open. Astrid looked up at Hiccup and presses her cheek against Hiccups' callused fingers. They stayed like that for a moment, staring into each others eyes. Time seemed to freeze, but the moment was shattered by Valka yelling from downstairs. Her telling Hiccup to hurry. He sighed again.

"We have to go... Dragon training today," he said.

Astrid grumbled in annoyance but slowly began to stand up. She stretched and then looked at the bed, realizing only then that she was not on it. "Hiccup? Would you care to explain why I was sleeping on the floor?" She crossed her arms and looked at him expectantly.

Hiccup chuckled nervously and then said, "Well, you see, my mom was knocking on the door and I knew that I couldn't let her see you, so I panicked and just kind of... put you on the floor?" He scratched the back of his neck and looked at the ground.

Astrid laughed. "Okay. As long as you didn't just get sick of me in the middle of the night and shove me off."

Even though she had said it jokingly, Hiccup stopped having such an interest in the wooden floor and looked at Astrid.

"Listen to me. I could never get sick of you. After last night it's more likely that you'll get sick of me. What with all the crying and stuff. And I never did say it last night, but thank you for staying. I don't know what was wrong with me. I just broke down and wasn't able to stop. You made me listen to you and realize that I wasn't alone. Thank you so much. I love you." Hiccup took both her hands in his.

Astrid gently took one hand out of his light grasp and pushed back his sleep matted bangs. "I've told you before and I'm only going to say it one more time. I'm not leaving you for anything. Also, you don't need to thank me. I know you would never have left me if I was in the state that you were in. We all need someone who looks out for us and picks us up when we fall. And I promise to always be there to do that if you need it. I love you too." She kissed his cheek.

Hiccup gave her a crooked smile and then swiftly pulled her into a real kiss, wrapping his bare and thin arms around her waist. Astrid smiled against the pressure of his lips and curled her hands around his bare neck. Just then, the door to Hiccups' room burst open. Startled, the two broke apart and saw Valka with her eyes wide and mouth dropped open.

Hiccups' face flushed vermillion red, the colour of shame, and realized what the scene must look like in his mothers' eyes: Hiccup standing shirtless and barefoot with Astrid, who was only in a shirt and pants with no armour. It was obvious she had either stayed the night or showed up without bothering to get ready first, which is extremely out of Astrid's personality. It was morning and the bedsheets were all messed up from the couple sleeping from the night before.
