Chapter 17

Katsumi POV

I woke up the next morning early and woke Kemuri up. I went to the arena and waited for Jellal, Mirajane, Laxus, and Gajeel at the arena. When they came the familiar roar of the crowd met my ears.

"An now, what you've all been waiting for the second day of the Grand Magic Games has begun!" The announcer yelled out cheerfully. Trumpets blared as he continued. "Our guest today is renowned reporter for Sorcerer Weekly, Jason!"

He gestured to the reporter to his right, who yelled out his signature word.

"Okay, the competition part has already begun! And its name is. . . Chariot!"

I looked up at the lacrima vision screens to see a gigantic train of flat, wooden platforms that were being driven by a mechanical chariot motor in front.

"This competition takes place on top of a line of vehicles, with the idea being to reach the goal without falling off! As the vehicles are always moving, just one moment of carelessness could lead to a misstep! Yajima who could have predicted this turn of events?!" Yajima was too confused to answer.

"Why did Natsu and Gajeel out of all people sign up for this?" I asked calmly.

"You'd think they'd be able to tell what kind of event it was from it name, 'Chariot'!" Laxus said rolled his eyes, "Those idiots."

"Natsu and Gajeel are always sure about their decisions," Mira said, "Once they've made up their mind about something, they don't listen to anything else."

"Oh my! Way in the rear is a groggy looking Natsu from Fairy Tail A!"

Natsu was on the third to last platform, blue in the face and moving extremely slowly.

"This isn't going to work. . ." I said sweat dropping.

"And that's not all! Right in front of him is Gajeel from Fairy Tail B! And even Sting from Sabertooth, all moving like molasses!"

"What's going on here, Yajima?!"

"I suppose the three of them have something in common. . ." the older man said.

"Well, in the meantime, let's check up on our leaders of the pack! It's a fierce dead heat at the front! In the lead is Blacksnake of Raven Tail! Ichiya of Blue Pegasus is high  on his heels, followed by Yuuka of Lamia Scale and Risley of Mermaid Heel! Some distance behind them is Bacchus from the reserve squad of Quarto Cerberus!"

"Wave boost!" Yuuko yelled used his magic to nullify the people behind him and boot up his speed.

"Never underestimate a chubby girl!" Risley cried as she altered her gravity and ran along the side of the platforms as a crash was heard.

"What is this?! Bacchus used his power to destroy the vehicles! And just like that, he crossed the goal line first! Quarto Cerberus wins 10 points!"

Everyone was in awe of Bacchus' powers.

No one ever would have thought that Quarto had a man like this in their guild.

"In second place, Blacksnake of Raven Tail! In third, Risley, in fourth, Yuuka, and in fifth, Ichiya! All that's left are those three, battling it out at the bottom ranks!"

"I. . . . I don't believe this!!!" Gajeel covered his mouth with his hand, about to hurl, "I never had any problem with transportation before!"

"Well, I've finally gotten used to it!" Sting said cockily, "Welcome to the real dragon slayers, newbie."

Gajeel tried to use Natsu to topple Sting over the chariot but stopped and leaned over the edge of the platform.
"I can't muster any strength!"

The crowd laughed at the three dragon slayers as I faintly smiled. "Those two never give up, huh?"
