The Hospital

After a few months of doing, ordinary outreach at Mt Druitt and Blacktown, I was getting more and more confident, in sharing with people, and praying for people. Yet, I knew I still had a long way to go, I knew that I still had some things to learn, and that was when the hospital came around.

The pastor of our church had called for people to go to Mt Druitt Hospital, in particular the rehabilitation, palliative and children's ward, in order to minister through song, prayer and regular conversation. And so I thought, given my exposure to outreach that I would go and see what this hospital ministry would be like.

And so, I, with nine other people, including our pastor, turned up at the hospital, and we prayed before we left. My pastor told me that I was to team up with someone else, whenever I went into a room, especially if there was a woman patient.  (A six-foot-two, strange man, might have freaked out some of the older residents.)

And so, I teamed up with one of our elders, I followed their example and listened as she ministered to some of the patients. And so, she called me out to speak to an elderly lady by the name of Sherry.

I knelt down and began to speak to this old lady, and she looked happy to just have someone who would speak to her.

I asked her why she was in the hospital today, and she told me she had suffered a fall, and had dislocated her hip. She had been in the hospital for three weeks at that point, and wouldn't leave until her son's found a place for her.

But, she didn't believe that her son's would find a place. Instead, she believed that she would die, in that hospital bed, because the pain was just too much for her to take. This hit me hard. This beautiful lady, who was so fragile, just wanted to die, because, she had lost all hope of finding a place that would care for her.

And so, as if something in my spirit was tugging at me, I offered to pray for her, and she agreed. I took her hand and commanded life into her spirit, and healing into her body, and that every fear and doubt would be bound and cast out.

Then I looked at her, and in my spirit, I knew, that her sons would find a place for her, that she would have  a place that would take care of her, and a place that would lead to her having a better lifestyle.

Towards the end of the prayer, she started to cry, and she placed her other hand on top of mine as I prayed with her. I looked at her, and said "amen"

She started to cry a little more, and she told me that, she could feel a whole new light, that she wasn't able to feel before, and I asked her.

"If you were to die, would you have a place in Heaven?"

And she looked at me.

"I don't know." Was all she said.

"Did you want to know?" I asked again.

She nodded, and I lead her in the prayer of salvation. And in that moment, there was such an enormous amount of joy that filled the hospital room, she was smiling and full of life. She opened her arms for a hug, and I gave her one, and she kissed me on the cheek in appreciation.

She then chuckled, and said "most boys your age, who wear all the dark clothes and the beanies. (my actual outfit for that day.) are doing bad things, but you. There is something different about you."

I laughed, and said my goodbyes. The elder came up to me and nodded at me.

"Good work Angus."

And we both left the hospital room, meeting up with the rest of the music team.

That was the first person I had ever lead to the Lord, the first person, who I had ever seen, be full of such hopelessness and have it turned to joy.

And you as a believer, have that same ability, to see the hope restored into the hopeless, by simply sharing and caring enough for someone. Or maybe you're an unbeliever, or curious and just looking for something to change that feeling of emptiness into joy.

If that is you, and you are looking for that peace and joy that comes with the Lord, I want you to pray this prayer, with all your heart, and with a whole acceptance of the change that is to come;

"Dear Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross for me and my sins, I believe that you paid the price, so that I might find and experience you, that I might, live for you. And i accept you into my heart, as my Lord and my Saviour, that I might live for you, the rest of my days, so that I know, that when I die, I will be seated next to you in Heaven. Amen"

If you just prayed that prayer, just know that you have taken the first step into a new life, as a new creation.  Set apart form this world, made holy and righteous in the eyes of the Lord.

And I personally want to welcome you, into salvation.

God bless.
