The World as We Knew it

Chapter 2: Powers Within

                              December 29th, 2150
                                         Vivian POV

I'm woken up by someone shaking me. I open my eyes groggily and see Melody above me, shaking me.

"So you're the one who has disturbed my slumber." I say groggy.

"Yup. They need us to get ready and follow them." she tells me.

I sit up and rub my eyes, blinking a couple times.

"What for?"

"They didn't say."

She gets up and goes over to her bed and grabs all her things. I get up, stretch, and grab my things.

"Didn't you wear that yesterday?" Melody asks pointing to my clothes.

"Yeah but we have to go right?"

"We have enough time for you to change, come on." She says.

She grabs my hand and suddenly everything goes dark and a blurry picture appears in my mind of a blonde girl knelt over someone with her hands over the person as they emit a soft golden glow. Just like that, it disappears and my vision comes back to Melody waving her hand in front of my face.

"Hey, you okay?" she asks worriedly.

"Yeah I'm fine, just spaced out a bit." I assure her. "I'll get changed, just give me a minute." I tell her.

"Okay." she says clearly still worried.

I open up my suitcase and get changed into a black t-shirt and white ripped jeans. I put my dirty clothes in a separate part of my suitcase and the shut it. I stand up grabbing it and walking to stand next to Melody.

"Happy now?" I ask looking over at her.

"Quite."

She nods her head and smiles at me. I just roll my eyes as I follow her out of the room. The other girls are already standing there in the hallway and so is the blonde lady from yesterday although she looks rather annoyed.

"Alright, I'm Nurse Petra Howard, Dr. Charleston's assistant. I'll be in charge of you girls for now." She informs us as she looks over a clipboard she has. "Today we're going to be taking you to one of the examination or, as most people call it, testing rooms and before you can ask what it is, it's the room where we will figure out exactly what sort of ability you have been given." She explains to us. "Now follow me." She instructs as she heads down the hallway, her heels clicking against the tile floor.

We all follow her in silence down the hallway until she stops in front of a meta double door room. She opens it and holds it open for us so the five of us girls head into the room which is also white tiles everywhere but there is a couple other people in lab coats along with various devices in the room. Nurse Petra enters behind us, shuts the door, and locks it making me and some of the other girls, including Melody, tense.

"Alright, we will be performing multiple tests on you to try and decide what your ability is. If you have already experienced something that you think could be your ability let us know now." She explains walking over to the other people in lab coats.

I hesitantly decide to speak up since I think what I experienced this morning may have something to do with the ability I have.

"I think I might know what mine is." I say hesitantly taking a step forward.

Nurse Petra turns to look at me with an eyebrow raised and so do the others with her.

"And what do you think it could be?" she asks.
