It Exceeds Her

Chapter 7 - The ice out here is treacherous

"I still can't believe your back in Colorado. I thought I'd never see you again." Zoey and I were currently shopping in Forever 21. She seemed more relieved than mad about my return.

"Your not mad with me?" I ask shyly looking at a red top that I had no interest in. I just really wanted to keep my eye anywhere else.

"Mad with you? Why would I be mad?" I stop looking mindlessly through the clothes on the racks and stare up at her.

"I.... um... I left" Is all I could get out.

She forced me into yet another hug and shaking her head. "I was mad at first, but it wasn't your fault you moved. I mean I heard you moved in with your uncle a couple states down, but then I saw your Facebook and you moved to Cali. Which I think is totally amazing,."

She stopped as soon as she saw my confusion. I mean I only had a few people on my actually Facebook account. "How did you see my Facebook account?"

A sense of relief quickly flashes through her eyes before she replaced her expression with happiness. "Oh that, you can see your profile picture and a few little details, like how you changed your location."

"Oh" is all I could respond. "Wait.. you checked up on me?" I ask in realization to what she just told me.

"I mean how couldn't I? You were my best friend, scratch that your still my best friend. I knew you were devastated because you were forced to leave your whole life. That can't possibly be easy. By the way when did you move back to Breckenridge? I mean you definitely don't go to Breckenridge High, I would know. And why were you with Ashton? I mean he's the biggest player ever. And a grade A douchebag."

"Zoey!" She stops her rant trying to catch her breath.

"Yeah?"

"How about one question at a time?" Zoey looks at me with an apologetic smile. It's definitely not her fault, I mean I disappear and then magically reappear.

So I proceed to tell her how Belle forced me to move here and how I'm living with Ashton. And how I'm starting high school at Breckenridge when the second semester starts after New Years.

Her face lit up at my school situation. "What?" I asked confused.

"We get to spend the next year and a half together in school. Oh and we can do all the things we used to do. Like sleepovers and now that we both drive we can go out and hang."

"You still want to be my friend?" I asked kind of shocked. I mean I left her without a friend. Without anyone to talk to.

Her eyes widened. "Why would you even ask that? I told you i'm not mad at you. And i mean it, we definitely need to catch up. I know we aren't as close as when you left, but we can always try."

"So tell me what's new?" Just as I was asking her my phone started vibrating in my purse. "Hold that thought" I held up my finger, signaling i'd only be a minute.

I looked down to the caller ID. "Hey Justin"

"Where are you?" he sounded frantic. Almost as if he was desperate. I mean that much alone time with the twins probably will drive you mad.

"I'm at Forever 21, why?"

"We need to leave, I can't stand these two."

I roll my eyes "Meet me at the car, I'll be there in 5 ish minutes." I respond trying to calm him down.

"Okay, and hurry!"

"Okay bye Justin" I hung up before he could scream at me any more.

"Everything okay?" I completely forgot Zoey was standing next to me. Probably trying not to listen to my conversation, but I mean we're standing next to each other.
