Alice opened the door, her grin wide. ''Finally, you look better'' she chirped "Umm. Thanks?" Rowan said awkwardly as she let herself in, her eyes widening at the spacious house. It looked modern and simple.
"We wanted to open the gifts now , so you should hurry" Alice pranced forward and Rowan followed her to the living room, there was a huge piano in the corner of the room, an elaborate chandelier hanging above all of them. The Cullens all dressed formally, and looked so beautiful , their beauty almost not human.
They all crowded around Bella , but Edward was the one who stood the closest. "Show me the love" Alice said taking her camera out and snapping a picture of all of them.
Esme handed Bella her first gift of the day , it was from Emmett and was medium in size. "It's empty" Bella said ,shaking the present back and forth.
"Already installed it in the truck , finally a decent sound system for that piece of ---" he stopped himself from continuing as he glanced over the younger teen. "Woah , Emmett, you should be a mechanic" Rowan said and there was a chorus of laughter that came from the Cullens. Her remark was received as a joke, but Rowan was serious , Emmett worked so fast. From what she could recall, they had arrived just an hour ago, and at that time the truck still had a crappy sound system.
"Hey don't hate the truck" Bella said, smiling widely. "Rosalie's next" Alice said , jumping up and down, as Rosalie handed her a long blue elegant box.
Suddenly , a phone rang and Rowan smiled sheepishly "Sorry ,you guys go ahead, I have to take this" The screen showed the caller id and her heart skipped a bit , straying away from the birthday celebration as she pressed the accept button. '' Hello Kiddo!'' Her father's voice rang loudly , the sound so piercing that it felt like he was standing next to her. '' Hey dad, what's up ?'' she said, wary of what he would say.
''You don't sound happy hearing from me,'' he said. ''I'm not delivering some bad news , in fact it's the opposite'' he said happily, and Rowan could not recall when he sounded that happy.
''Ok so what's the good news?'' she asked curiously, pacing around the room, touching all the artifacts that was laid there as display. ''I've met someone'' he said, testing and waiting for her reaction. ''A friend?'' Rowan asked hopefully. There were sudden sounds of slamming and breaking glass, worried, Rowan wanted to go back to the party.But her father made it impossible to end the call , interrupting her before she excused herself.
''Okay, I promised that I'm going to be telling you everything. No secrets'' he said , and Rowan could almost hear the smile in his voice. Ignoring the noises from the party, she found herself too curious of what her father has to say. '' I've met a woman, and I didn't tell her about you yet'' she was left speechless after his revelation, combing her hair anxiously. A woman? really?
Rowan's father has never dated since her mother's death, at least as far as she know. So she was never prepared of the possibility of him marrying again, and frankly speaking she didn't like it. ''You're dating..'' she said, "Since when?'' John ignored the obvious disapproval in her voice and continued. '' Just met her a week ago, she's a beautiful redhead'' he laughed , knowing that everything was moving too fast , but he was happy.
''Don't judge me kiddo, when you fall in love you would know'' scrunching her face and grimacing, Rowan replied ''Eww'' John laughed at her obvious innocence. '' You'll see, '' he said
'' Alright, just letting you know that your dad is happy. You're the only one I wanted to tell to the most'' Rowan's lips formed a thin line, finding it hard to share his excitement. ''Bye'' she said, suddenly turning her phone off, cutting off her father effectively. She felt bummed now , her excitement for the whole party spoiled.
At the front door is where the rest of the Cullens went, with the exception of Jasper , Carlisle, and Alice ''I guess we partied too much, sorry about all the noises'' Emmett said with a smile as Rowan looked baffled. '' Is Bella okay..'' she asked, noticing her absence.
''Just a little accident, but it's nothing serious'' Esme explained, smiling kindly at her.
''What did she do this time? It sounded so bad'' Rowan could recall that she heard glass shattering and some furniture being smashed.
''Seriously, how can such a fragile creature such as her create so much damage?'' Rowan asked as she moved aside, trying to peer in to the living room. Grimacing as broken glass came to view, what in the world happened to Bella?
''Always putting herself in harm's way'' Edward said mysteriously, his face looked pained and serious. Maybe a bad break up? But everyone seemed to be in a good mood except for Edward.
''I thought Bella would be less clumsier with you Edward, but I guess not'' Edward's lips formed a thin line, and Rowan regretted the words that she said. '' Jake- I mean Jacob will come pick me up, I don't think Bella can drive'' She texted on her phone, quickly informing Jake about the recent events.
''Bella is staying here for awhile, Carlisle is stitching her wound up.'' Rosalie said, glaring at her. What's her problem?
'' Stitching ?!" she exclaimed , eyes widening. "Let Jacob know that I'll drive you home myself, it's getting late and you have an early class tomorrow"Edward suddenly said , grabbing the still shocked Rowan and leading her out of the house, her stomach growling from hunger. '' I'll get you some food'' Edward said quickly, as they went inside the car.
