chapter eighteen.
an unblinking death
❦ESME REACHED FOR the space beside her, where she knew she had spent another night with Klaus and it led her to expecting that she was going to be able to wake up with him beside her. But the space beside her was empty, where Klaus should've been sleeping peacefully beside but instead it had been left cold causing her brows to furrow in confusion as she propped herself onto her elbows. Her eyes scanned around her room, noticing how still everything was and how her door had sat ajar causing her to tilt her head to the side before turning to her vampire hearing to give her some answers.
For the past night or so, Esme had a night with Klaus filled with pleasure where their relationship was given another chance. There was no more Genevieve, there was just Esme and Klaus. It would've been better if Esme could've woken up to the hybrid as soon as her eyes had opened. Instead she was pushing herself out of her bed with her bed sheets wrapped around her body as she hard the thuds coming from the living room making her hurry towards her shower before she had left her room.
Klaus had been throwing books carelessly to the side as soon as he knew they weren't his mother, Esther's, grimoire. He knew how Genevieve had sent a warlock into their home as they attended the Fete De Benedictions to steal Esther's grimoire for her own benefit, knowing how powerful each of Esther's spells were. His mother's missing grimoire had brought Klaus to his concern as he rummaged through the bookshelf within the living room, as he had thrown yet another book over his shoulder Elijah had stepped into the room knowing exactly what his brother was looking for.
"Can I help you with something?" Elijah questioned while lifting the mug of tea to his lips.
"Yes." Klaus quickly replied in aggravation. "In fact, I believe you can. I'm looking for a book about--" He had plucked a book from the shelf to resemble the size of the grimoire he was in hope of finding sooner than later. "yay big filled with our mother's most powerful spells. It appears to have been misplaced."
Elijah commented. "How very mysterious."
"Indeed." Klaus voiced before throwing the book within his grasp to the side as Elijah had taken a seat at the desk. "At first, I feared the witches had succeeded in their efforts to obtain it, but considering their last attempt ended with me relieving a rather large, tattooed gentleman of his hands, I began to wonder if the thief wasn't a bit closer to home." Elijah had glanced from the paper he scribbled on as Klaus had pointed his brother as being the culprit of Esther's missing grimoire. "Don't make this harder than it needs to be, brother." Klaus warned as he slowly begun his way towards the Mikaelson booted up in a suit as per usual.
"Well," Elijah rested back in the chair as he fiddled with his pen rather mischievously. "admittedly, I did have a theory that your sudden interest in mother's grimoire was in some way related to whatever foolishness you've been conducting with the Crescent wolves." Esme's brows had knitted together in confusion as she had been eavesdropping on the conversation from her room as she tugged on the ribbed black cardigan top over her head. What was going on between Klaus and the Crescent wolves? "Therefore, I took it upon myself to carefully place it, where naughty little fingers couldn't pry."
