. . .
Jisoo was playing with Dalgom in her room when their manager knocked on her door.
"Jisoo, YG-sajangnim wants to meet with you."
"Me?"
"Yes."
Jisoo's heart was pounding. She was trying to think of all the things she might have done wrong in the past weeks, months even.
She entered the meeting room slowly, peeking inside first before going in. She remembered what Seungri – sunbae told her. If you're called to the meeting room, most of what you'll get is a scolding. She was glad she wasn't sent to Sajangnim's office.
"Hello," she greeted with a smile.
"Jisoo, please take a seat."
Jisoo was looking at his face, trying to discern whether he's upset with her or not. From the tone of his voice, it seems like he's not angry – but his expression says otherwise. He wasn't smiling.
Once she's settled in her seat across from him on the wide meeting table, Yang Hyunk-suk, YG's CEO, cleared his throat.
"Jisoo,"
"Yes, Sajangnim,"
"How many years has it been since your debut?"
"Three years, Sajangnim."
"Oh, yes."
It was quiet for a few seconds, and Jisoo knew for sure that Sajangnim could hear her heartbeat.
"How many variety shows have you done?"
She was taken aback by the question. "Uhm, I really don't know the number."
"But you went to variety shows more than the other girls, right?"
"Yes."
"Out of all the other members, you're most compatible when it comes to variety shows and reality shows."
Jisoo didn't respond. She knew the girls had their strengths and weaknesses, but she never really liked it when it was pointed out.
"So," YG continued, "You've been invited to a reality show. I've already agreed to it but it's all up to you. I need to know whether you're willing to go through it or not. Of course, I've checked everything to make sure that you'll be safe and cared for. This is nothing like the variety shows you've done before – but Lisa has experienced something similar to this."
Jisoo's heart was about to explode. She was glad she wasn't there for a scolding, but this was a new thing altogether. A reality show? Like the one Lisa did? Real men?
Jisoo laughed nervously. "Sajangnim, I don't think I'm ready for the army –"
YG smiled for the first time that day. "No, Jisoo, I'm not sending you to the army. Are you familiar with the show We Got Married?
. . .
After Sajangnim explained what she's meant to do in the reality show and Jisoo nodded firmly to cinfirm she could do it, he asked her to call the other girls to tell them the news.
"Unnie!" Lisa exclaimed, hugging her. "This is so exciting! You're going to get married!"
Jennie and Rose were giggling by her side. "I hope he's handsome, unnie!"
"You'll be meeting with the show's producers and directors tomorrow afternoon," Sajangnim said. "Your managers already have your schedules."
"Sajangnim," Jisoo said excitedly. "Do you know who he is? Is he cute?"
CEO-nim only laughed as he dismissed the girls.
As the girls headed back to their dorms, Jisoo's younger members kept speculating who her virtual husband would be.
"I bet he's an idol as well –"
"Or maybe an actor!"
"I bet he's really tall –"
"Anyone is taller than Jisoo unnie..."
Jisoo was distracted. She kept thinking back to what Sajangnim told her about the changes to We Got Married's rules.
"One of criticisms against We Got Married is its authenticity," Sajangmin had explained. "The viewers are asking how scripted and manipulated the show is, since there are cameramen and directors are present every moment."
"So, for this season, they're going to minimize the presence of the staff. They've set up cameras inside the house the couples are going to stay in, which means there will be no staff inside the couple's home. You'll only have staff during dates in public, since you need protection."
"What? Stay in a house alone? With a man?" Jisoo wasn't a prude, but she's not quite liberated either. She's a private and conservative person, and the thought of sleeping in a house with a man, even if they are pretending to be married, is a little unsettling to her.
"Yes. I know it seems terrifying, that's why I wanted to ask you first if you're okay with this."
"The whole week for a year?"
"No, only three days a week, not unless you have anything scheduled. Then, you'll leave the house and you'll go on set. The same thing goes for him. The only difference from your daily life is that you don't go to the dorm with your members. The producers really want something authentic."
"Then, what part is scripted?"
"You'll get tasks and missions as you go along. They'll give you prompts for the topics to talk about, but the rest is up to you."
She bravely said yes. She didn't know who her husband would be, or what the producers plan to do, but she trusted her CEO that he won't do anything to harm her.
She could only hope for the best.
