boom, went the thunder outside, as he held her close to him. it had been raining non-stop for the past two weeks, and on this particular night, the sky seemed to be furious. lighnting danced acroos the night sky every now and then, followed later on by the loud boom of the thunder. she had caled him over to comfort her and keep her company, as she was alone that night--her roomate was out with her family for the weekend. along with that, she also happened too be afraid of thunder.

"when will this stupid rain stop?" she asked childishly, pouting her lips as she made herself comfortable, lying her head on his chest. they had been lying in her cramped little bed in the small bedroom for nearly thirty minutes now, just waiting for the rain to stop while simply talking with each other.

"i don't know. i wish i could control the weather for you," he smiled.

"if i controlled the weather, i'd make it rain churros," she thought out loud. this made him laugh.

"why churros though?"

"duh. because churros."

he laughed at this again.

"man, how lucky am i to have gotten a girlfriend like you?"

"so lucky. i mean, i'm me. you can't get any better than that."

he squeezed her in his arms and kissed her forehead lightly. "absolutely true."

they lay there in silence, with the heavy rain outside as background noise. a few moments later, as she was about to fall asleep, the lights went out. thunder was one thing; the dark had a whole other level of fear factor to her. she let out a squeak (yes, a literal squeak) of fear as she wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her face in his chest. he held her tighter to him while whispering, "shh, it's okay, the power just went out."

"what do you mean it's okay?!" she whisper-shouted. "it is one hundred and ten percent not okay! it is a truckload of not okay! a myriad of not okay!"

"alright, alright! calm down."

"i don't like it heeeeere," she sniffled. "i hate the dark. and the stupid rain. curse the stupid dark and the stupid rain."

"hey, stop cursing the rain, okay? just close your eyes and try to sleep."

she closed her eyes for a while, then opened them. "it's the same as when my eyes are open. it's no use."

"you need to help yourself fall asleep, babe."

"oh, fine."

she closed her eyes again. as she was about to complain again, he started singing softly. she could feel the gentle rise and fall of his chest with his every breath, lulling her to sleep.

"so i could take the back road

but your eyes will lead me straight back home

and if you know me like i know you

you should love me, you should know

that friends just sleep in another bed

and friends don't treat me like you do

well i know that there's a limit to everything

but my friends won't love me like you"
