"I am your uncle and you are already engaged, so break up with that boy."

"Engaged, what kind of lie is this?" Taeyeon rolls her eyes, you must be kidding me. "If I'm engaged, why aren't I aware of it?"

"Baek Bonhwa." Her uncle utters, this name waking up a feeling in her. "Have you forgot?"

How could she forget? She has spent middle school and half of high school, worrying about who is the man to whom she is betrothed, knowing nothing more than solely his name.

"That's nonsense."Taeyeon shakes her head, the fear of ending up married to someone she doesn't know creeping to her.

"We broke off the engagement back when I was in high school." She reminds herself, saying it a bit too loud, for her uncle to hear.

"About four years ago, his family called again, and asked us to re-establish the engagement." He crosses his legs, calmly leaning back into the couch.

Unlike her uncle, Taeyeon isn't calm at all; blood is boiling in every part of her body and she digs her fingers into her flesh, stopping herself from both breaking down and blurting out.

She can't believe it. She is engaged again, without her consent, and she only knows it four years later. Her uncle and his wife have done a lot of bad things to her, but this is probably the worse.

This time, they have reached a point where Taeyeon won't be able to hold back her feelings anymore.

After a deep breath, "You simply said yes? Without asking me? And you kept it a secret for four years?"

Even if she knows that she can solve the problem in a short span of time, she still feels sad, betrayed, even if she expected it, coming from him, from them.

"What do you mean by why? You were single, so why couldn't we benefit from you while we could?"

"Benefit from me? Am I some kind of toy to you?" She scoffs.

"Plus," He adds, ignoring what she said. "I am your uncle, I can make decisions instead of you."

Taeyeon laughs, glaring at him after mere seconds."Cut that crap, just months ago you kicked me out of this house saying that I wasn't part of this family. You aren't my uncle, you will never be."

He abruptly stands on his feet, his hand on his side as he gets closer to her, an intimidating gaze laid on her. "Who made you believe that just because you've became an adult, you have the right to talk to me like that?"

"I made myself believe so." She holds her head up high, her eyes focusing on his and not flinching a second. "Not because I'm an adult, but because it's the right thing for me to do. Because you never acted like an uncle to me and because you never actually cared about me."

She is her own wall, almost indestructible. She owns her life and she is proud of where she has come. "So why would I? Why would I stay engaged to someone I don't know, just so you would benefit from it? I'm breaking off the engagement and I don't care about what will happen to you."

A spasm of panic crosses his features. "What about Irene? It will be her loss before it would be ours." The intimidating gaze isn't there anymore, and after a failed attempt of a small smile, he continues, "You care about Irene, don't you?"

"I can take care of Irene by myself, she doesn't need you." And with that, Taeyeon turns around, walking to the door, leaving that place.

Everything is funny around her; how she is South Korea's top female artist, how her boyfriend who lives next to her also happens to be her boss, and how her favorite person on earth is her uncle's adopted child; Irene.
