CHAPTER TWO: MAD HATTER

――――――

Dinners at Mrs. Peregrine was always ordinary. Everyone was quarreling about the food that Angel and Emma had done, and Mrs. Peregrine herself did not have the strength to calm them down. Claire, Bronwyn and the twins quarreled about meat, which Angel throught was disgusting. She could not figure out how people could eat other innocent animals. Whenever Enoch always irritated her with the text "Why don't you eat meat?" Then you can fight monsters, wait, I forgot that you always hide and wait for the threat to pass. " she answered him with the same hint as he, "says the one who touches the hearts of innocent animals." That's when Enoch always closes.

Hugh, Milliard and Fiona always talk quietly about an unknown future. They knew that if they talked so loudly that Mrs Peregrine would get drunk. She did not like when someone talked about the future. To be honest, Mrs. Peregrine do not want to be sad that they will be trapped in the loop forever. Angel always thought why exactly this day. September 3, 1943 was not perfect, she knew about it. Why not in the new century? The answer was that most would be dead. In addition to these young children, of course. Only the thought of Claire giving the tomb to Angel gave her shivers. She did not like thinking about the deaths of her relatives.

Either way, Enoch and Olive were talking quietly among themselves. Enoch, of course, responded reluctantly and sometimes glanced at the brown-haired girl next to his brother, which surprised the red-haired girl although she did not admit it. For a few days she began to like Enoch more than friends. That's why she came into the Enoch's room every day, watching his dolls fight. She felt a slight jealousy  and stopped talking to the boy looking only at her plate. She could not understand why he turned his attention to Angel. Of course she was pretty but not beautiful. Maybe it was her character? Angel was open to people, so when she first met all the children, everyone liked her. Or was it her eyes?  They were a mixture of blue and something mysterious.

Olive stopped staring at her plate and looked at Angel. Angel spoke with her brother who talked about his new clothes, laughing loudly. She even had to lean against Emma's arm, who was all amused by her friend's behavior so that she would not fall over with laughter. As soon as Angel caught a sour contact with Olive, she quickly shot Angel a murderous look. Angel did not know what Olive was going on, so she stopped laughing looking at Olive with a questioning look.  She rolled her eyes, continuing her meal.

When the dinner ended, everyone gathered in the living room to watch Horace's dream. Angel claimed that this show was fascinating. Seeing the future was a great perculiarity. Although this is not currently the future, it is always cool to check later whether his dreams have worked. Usually, for example, a dream when Hugh asked Fiona for crayons, he checked. Angel could still remember those shy smiles that they gave each other when it worked. Angel also wanted to have a person with that she could share shy smiles, erasers or something even more romantic. But Horace did not dream of such a dream unfortunately.

This time the dream was quite interesting. This time Abe appeared together with Emma, Bronwyn, Milliard, twins, Olive and Angel. Everyone opened their eyes wide and Angel muttered under her nose "smelly traitor". Then the dream changed. Suddenly Enoch and Angel were standing there. They had an argument. Luckily, because if they did something very awkward, then Angel would kill him. Horace, on the other hand, has always dreamed where the two are arguing. It just was unavoidable.

Then Horace began to dream about his new clothes, constantly commenting on whether it would be a good purchase or not. Even if Angel was commenting too about how ugly they were.

People were more worried if it was really Abe. For Angel, he was very young and yet he could not find a different loop because he said he would go to the army. So it could not be Abe, according to Angel.

- What if it was Abe? Angel heard Claire's voice. She knew that the children liked Abe, so Angel was not surprised. Angel approached the little girl and took her on her back. Claire giggled, forgetting her earlier question. In quick but also so that Claire did not fall, she ran away to get her to bed. The view of the sleeping girl was too beautiful to leave her to see the reset. According to Angel, the children below should be in bed at that time. And this falling bomb. She did not know how children do not have a fear looking at the bomb that actually hit them. Bronwyn went to bed herself, giving a kiss on Angel's cheek.

When Angel put the girl to sleep, she quickly ran to see the reset. Outside, her brother was standing there holding her gas mask together with the others. Angel quickly thanked smiling to her brother and put on the mask. She stood next to Horace and Milliard, who put his arm around her. They are in the same heather and age, so Milliard can surround Angel. Fortunately Horace does not worry if Angel loves someone or loves her. Milliard and Angel love each other as siblings, so it did not cause any problems for anyone. Well, maybe apart from Enoch. He stood as far as possible from Angel, something that was terrifying him. But when he saw that Milliard was definitely too close to the girl, he had to tighten his jaw so he would not accidently knock him down. He knew that they did not feel anything, but he felt terrible jealousy. So when Mrs. Peregrine turned on the song on the gramophon and there was a bombe that slowly flew down to the house, he pushed to stand on the left side of Angel. Horace did not mind that Enoch was standing next to his sister for some reason. Angel, whenever she saw this falling bomb, always started to be scared, even though she knew it would not hit her. She started looking blindly at Horace's hand to catch her. This time she found a bit cold, but she did not care. When that hand slashed her hand, she breathed a sigh of relief. Finally she felt safe. With that stranger hand on her left and Milliard's shoulder on her right.

When the reset was over and she took off her mask, she smiled broadly at Milliard and was about to hug Horace when she saw Enoch's face. There was no disgust on her as she thought. She saw only to her surprise a small, almost invisible blush. Though she did not know how to blush, she still felt like she was on flames. She looked at her hand to see their joined hands. She quickly took hers and ran fast with a thunder-jam as always inside to hide from the world.
