"Melody!" the kind yet annoying voice called from up the stairs.
"Yeah?" I call back. I wait a few seconds for a reply. After 5 seconds of silence I groan with a small "Oh, what the fuck now". I scoot off of my bed and march up the stairs. I twist the doorknob on the door at the top of the stairs, closing my eyes tightly in preparation. I push the door open and, as suspected, the sunlight invited itself onto my pale skin, making me warm and blinded. I pulled some of my blue hair over my eyes in attempt to block the sun.
"What is it? I was working on my homework." I said, slowly opening my eyes. My Mother turned to me as she finished wiping off the kitchen counter.
"A few parcels came for you." she said, flashing that pearly white smile of hers as she gestured to the 3 boxes on th table, neatly stacked biggest to smallest. I nearly jumped up and down in excitement.
"Thanks Mom," I said, keeping my composure. I never liked showing emotion. It reveals too much. I grabbed the boxes and headed back down the stairs.
"Would you like anything to eat?" My Mom asked, holding a spatula.
"No thanks, I ate at 5 this morning." I replied, trying to be nice about it. I only ever ate dinner. I tell people that I've eaten so they don't get on my case about how unhealthy my habits are. I got to the bottom of the stairs and rushed over to my bed, setting the boxes carefully down. I had ordered these items about a week ago. I was honestly surprised that they were here so soon. I opened the first box that sat on top and pulled out some plastic packaging. I tore the plastic off to reveal the pastel pink pull-over sweater I had ordered. I unfolded it and held it out with the front facing me. The front had a seashell on it and read:
I Want To Be Where The People Aren't
I gave a small smirk. The colour says "come talk to me" but the wording says otherwise. I liked to be confusing. The list of insults and come backs I have could be quite brilliant and I loved to use them as much as I could. I laid out the sweater on my bed and threw the now empty box to the side. The next box was significantly bigger. I ripped the tape off and opened it, revealing a lot of bubble wrap. I pulled the item out of the box carefully and smoothly unwrapped the item. It was a jar containing a horse fetus with 2 heads. I smiled at it and walked over to my collection of oddities, setting it on the shelf with my other wet specimens, in between the two headed baby duck and Hickory Horned Devil Caterpillar. I took a step back and smiled. I tossed that box to the side as well. The last box. The one I was most excited for. I opened the box to find a black case wrapped with a single layer of bubble wrap. I took the wrapping off and took the black case out of the box. I smiled and ran my hand over the top. I carefully opened the case. I smiled brightly at what was inside. A professional tattoo kit with ink, needles and everything else you'd need to tattoo someone. It took me a moment to lok at everything inside. I quickly grabbed my phone and dialed my best friend and teacher, Richard Dunes, or Char for short.
"Hey." He answered.
"Hey. It came in. Want me to come over with it?" I asked, closing the case back up.
"Definitly. The door is unlocked." He replied before he hung up. I ended the call and smirked. I changed into my dark jeans and new sweater with a white tank top underneath. I grabbed the case and headed back upstairs. I walked through the kitchen and passed the living room. I slipped my boots on and zipped the sides up.
"I'm going out for a bit. I'll text you the details." I called out to whoever was listening.
"Okay honey, be home for dinner. It's four favorite!" I heard my Mother call from upstairs. I threw on my sun glasses and headed out the door. The leaves were turning to their reds and yellows, having started falling as of 2 days ago. Char's shop was a few blocks away. On my way there, I noticed a clothing store I never noticed before.
