Third Person POV
The sun shone down gently on the blonde and the dark-haired boy as they fidgeted uncomfortably in the park. They sat on a blue and white striped picnic mat, watching the other two couples gathered around them share their joy in raucous laughter.
Jason and Piper shared the usual; barbecue-flavoured chips and cherry soda. They basked in the daylight and told stories about their adventures when they were younger.
The soon-to-be-married couple, Magnus and Alex, listened on with great intent. It was interesting for them to learn more about Greek mythology and compare it to Norse mythology. Whenever Jason or Piper shared an anecdote that Magnus had heard before through Annabeth, he would get excited and want to continue the story. That earned him a slap upside the head by Alex. As they continued chatting, Alex hit him for the fifth time that day.
It was like an old group of friends that finally came together. Oddly, the one person who had a common bond between the Greeks, Romans and Norse was the only one remaining silent. Even Percy eventually joined in the conversation. Annabeth simply observed the scenario, her startling gaze tending to focus on Percy.
She was the only one in the group who was concerned about the presence of monsters. Being in a group of four demigods and two einherjar, the scent given off would be beyond potent. As such, while her friends enjoyed their merriment, she was on high alert and constantly scanned the surroundings. Her beady grey eyes squinted in all directions, occasionally looking back at her group of friends to make sure they were alright.
As time marched on, Annabeth felt more relaxed. She started off sitting straight up, as rigid as a board, but was now lying next to Percy and the rest. For the first time that day, she let out a hearty laugh as they continued their conversation.
It was reaching 2 in the afternoon, so the group began to pack up. They picked up after candy wrappers, bottled drinks, empty packets and tissue paper that was strewn across the grass, even though half of the trash they picked did not belong to them. Piper folded the picnic mats while the rest of them scoured the area for more litter.
After triple checking that the park was clean, they started heading off towards their cars. Since Piper and Jason now lived across the street from Percy and Annabeth's apartment complex, they carpooled in Percy's Prius on the way here. Meanwhile, Alex and Magnus searched for the hidden portal in the tree that they had come out of from Valhalla.
Just as they were about to part ways, the ground rumbled, causing a low echo to reverberate through the park. In the blink of an eye, Riptide, Ivlivs, Katoptris and Jack were drawn. Alex turned into a hawk and started circling the area to scout for any incoming enemies.
To their right, there were two drakons, flanked by three dracaenae and a few empousa. The dracaenae bared their fangs and hissed at the group, ready to feast upon fresh demigod flesh. The drakons swung their scaly tails wildly, uprooting lamps and trees with ease.
"That is government property!" yelled Percy, which would have been a good joke if not for the hordes of monsters encircling them.
To their left stood a few fire giants, their combined heat causing waves of heat to roll off them. The air around them dried instantly and trees shrivelled up wherever they walked. It was a mystery how they showed up without anyone noticing the gradual increase in temperature. They wielded fiery hot blades of hardened lava, approaching the group menacingly.
Alex was on her on now, facing a flock of Stymphalian birds. Their razor sharp teeth and pointed claws tried to dig their way into her flesh but she managed to evade them. She flew back to the ground and transformed back into a human, taking out her garrotte wires.
