IT WAS ONLY THREE IN THE AFTERNOON.
To Sierra, it felt like three in the morning. She had been all across Beacon Hills, trying to figure out all that Stiles did while he was missing.
Luckily, Coach was the only person injured at the preserve and he was now safely in the hospital. But now, with a potential bomb threat, Sierra felt nothing but fear and tension as she waited with everyone else at least fifty feet from where the present had been located.
As usual she stood between Scott and Stiles, anxiously chewing on her bottom lip while she watched Deputy Parrish climb up the steps, decked out in protective gear, to get on the bus. Stiles rubbed the back of his neck, using his other hand to grab Sierra's that was hanging loose by her side. Usually the action would've brought comfort to the girl but all she felt in that moment was a sense of emptiness, making her quickly jerk her fingers away.
She felt Scott gently get a hold of her right elbow, leaning over to whisper in her ear quietly, "Are you alright?" His voice was laced with nothing but concern; he had been worried about her ever since she saw Stiles in the basement. At first, he had thought she was angry with their friend for not contacting them but knew that when it came to Stiles, she was horrible at holding grudges.
Sierra forced a smile to convince him she was alright, but since she had taken a step closer to him in order to get farther away from Stiles, Scott didn't believe her for a second. He moved his gaze over to the boy, but he was too focused on the scene unraveling in front of them.
Scott tuned in his ears in order to hear Parrish on the bus, holding his breath out of nerves from listening to the deputy rambling to keep Jared, the unfortunate student who got caught with the present, calm. "You, you look really-"
"Handsome?" Parrish interrupted Jared's statement, looking him in the eye while simultaneously moving his scissors close to the ribbon.
"Thank you. For a second there, I thought you were going to say I look really young and I was going to have to launch into my explanation about how I am actually twenty-four. And that anyone can look young if they eat right and exercise. Although it's probably just genes anyways, right?"
Just as the words fell from his lips, Parrish swiftly cut the ribbon off the present. Jared immediately braced himself, expecting an explosion, but nothing happened.
"I think I just had a heart attack," Scott heard Sierra murmur under her breath, letting him know she was listening to what was going on as well.
"I'm sure everything is fine," he replied quietly, squeezing her arm since he was still holding on to her.
"It's not a bomb, sir," Deputy Parrish's voice came through Noah's radio that was on his shoulder and Scott felt his heart start beating again in relief until the young man continued, "but there is something in the box."
