Fonix's POV:
We were all silent. We couldn't believe it...our world was gone.
The twins were hugging. Sheer was crying. Victoria and Jonathan bit there nails and looked disoriented. Val was crying her eyes once again shimmering with sadness. Phoenix pressed her hand against the glass window watching our Universe fade behind the golden glow. I sat against the wall and opened the backpack I had. When I got it, it already had stuff in it, so I just threw in a few more things. One of the things I didn't put in was two books, one with the title (LIGHT IN THE DARK) and the other (VATEX S.L.)
We were supposed to make a new life on Vatex. I flipped through the book. I read the chapters that sounded most important. Chapter 5 was on food. 3 was on what the planet was made of.
I flipped through more chapters.
Chapter 22. The Vatex Beast
The first sentence was "the Beats almost no one survives."
My heart rate picked up.
I read on-"If you want to survive and make life you need to know how to survive Vatex's Beast! You need to know how to take on or make friend the beast, the protector, the monster, that lurks on Vatex."Val saw my expression and came over to me, she read what I read. Her eyes went wide. "Oh don't worry...this is probably just some legend, you know? Like a fairytale!" Val laughed. I knew what the word legend meant. And I had a feeling this was no legend. That...this...was...real!!
Val then left check on the others, I guess since she was one of the oldest she felt like she is babysitting or something. Anyway after she left, Phoenix wandered away from the window and sat next to me and gave me a smile. I closed the book. "So...since we are going to be living on the same planet, and we're practically going to be neighbors, we should get to know each other!" She laughed a little. If we didn't get eaten first. I just smiled and nodded. "So where are you from?" I asked. "Um....I don't know..I lived in an orphanage in California with my friend Treasure...for 5 years until she died of cancer. And I'm only 10 so.....Um...you?" She asked, her voice a little unstable. "Chicago." I told her. "Where are your parents?" She asked. I just stared at her. "Oh yeah...I forgot." She apologized.
There was a pause, as she looked away from me. She rubbed her wrist. "What were they like?" She asked, looking at me, seeming eager to know. "Um...my mom had short brown hair, with sharp blue eyes. My dad had rich dirt colored hair and hazel eyes. They were both funny and always knew how to make me and my sister smile even if we were sad. My mom was a really really good cook! And was perfect at anything that had do with cooking!! My dad worked as a lawyer and was good with a hammer and wood!! He built me a really cool play house once!" I explained, smiling weakly, remembering.
"Wow.." Phoenix whispered, her voice fragile. A tear ran down her face and it stuck me! Phoenix was only 10 years old and had never had anything! She never knew her parents! Or siblings she might of had! She lost her only friend! Had lived in a probably cold crowded orphanage in California! She probably had been in many hurricanes. And a lot of other things, I didn't even know!
I don't know anymore why I was scared of worried for what was going to happen.
"I'm so so sorry Phoenix! I had no idea!" I said hugging her. She flinched a little. "I will always be here for you if you need anything." I smiled at her, grasping her hand. "You know you promise that..." she whispered. She took the book from my hand. "We need to tell them, they need to be prepared!" She proclaimed. "You know how to read?" I ask. She nodded. "Ok find every book you can on Vatex and hurry!!" I commanded. "Yes, sir!" She replied, saluting. We grinned at each other. Then the plan begun!
I smuggled my way into the group of other scared worried kids. I had no idea how I was going to convince them but I had too! Because this wasn't a fairytale! I knew it! "Guys?" I said, looking up at them. They looked at me. I gulped. "Look there is a monster on Vatex and-OK Fonix! I know you scared and a little kid but that gives you no right to spread pointless fairytale lies!!" My sister cut me off. She started pushing me back to the corner where I was before. "NO!" I screamed, zipping away and too the other side of her. Val looked shocked! So did everyone else! "Listen!! Mom and dad-ARE NOT HERE ANYMORE!!" I yelled cutting my sister off this time. Everyone's faces flashed with every emotion. "Enough!!" My sister yelled at me. "IM TRYING TO SAVE YOU!!" I screamed, trying to hold in my tears. "Stop this foolishness Fonix!" Val demanded. She grabbed my hand firmly. "Listen to your sister!" Jonathan said, but it sounded like a harsh demand. I struggled to get out of my sisters grip as she dragged me toward a room. I yelled and kicked. She shoved me in a small room that Phoenix ran around in quickly, looking for books on Vatex! Val slammed the door.
Click!!
She locked the door!!!!
"Nooo!!!" I screamed. "What happened?!" Phoenix asked. "I FAILED!!" I said, banging on the door. I stopped banging, and looked around. Phoenix sat on a window edge reading. "What are you doing?" I asked. "Doing what you asked, so we live a longer life!" She stated. I stared out the window. The ship shook and we started to dive into a planet. Phoenix screamed and fell of the windows edge and landed on me. We fell to the floor, as books toppled from the shelves. We shielded our faces. After a few minutes of TERRIBLE turbulence the ship landed. Phoenix and I breathed heavily and glanced at each other wide eyed! I heard a heavy door shuttle open. I waited to here noise of a click. But there was no noise! No click! No one had unlocked the door! Me and Phoenix rushed to the window!
The trying to act like adult kids walked outside the ship! "No!!!" Me and Phoenix yelled together this time, banging on the window hard. But it didn't break. And they didn't hear us.
I watched in horror as the last part of my family vanished from my sight. Phoenix took a pin from her hair and tried to pick the lock. CLICK!! "Come on!!" She shouted. We ran through the unlocked door, we opened a Metal door, we stumbled out onto a grassy field. Screams echoed around us. My heart raced, with panic! Then the screams silenced with "someone" yelling my name."FONIX!!!!!"
