CHAEYOUNG tapped her feet nervously against the floor as their turn approached. everyone had done their extremely well which made her even more anxious. it was like her school was filled with potential idols. jaehyun was beside her biting his nails trying to contain his nerves.
she slapped his hand. "don't bite your nails." he gave her a weird look but then stop biting them anyway.
"next, chaeyoung and jaehyun." their teacher announced. they got up and walked in front of the class. all of the faces looked excited, like they were expecting a lot.
"5, 6, 7, 8." chaeyoung whispered loud enough so that only the duo heard it and signalled for jaehyun to start singing.
the words rolled off his tongue effortlessly. his mellow voice captivating everyone in the audience including their teacher who looked like he was awestruck. it was chaeyoung's turn to showcase her voice. she drew a deep breathe before beginning her verse.
jaehyun was sure he heard the students mumbling a few "wow" and "woah"s. he looked over at the girl to see if she had noticed their whispers but she she had her eyes closed and was concentrating wholeheartedly on the song. a small smile lined his lips.
by the time the song was over everyone was left speechless by the duo. everyone went silent. the first few claps came from yugyeom and slowly the rest of the class joined him. jaehyun's friends namely - jungkook, bambam, yugyeom, mingyu, seokmin and minghao cheered the loudest. jaehyun shot them a grateful smile.
"have you two considered auditioning for a company? because that was.....magical." their teacher whispered earning them a few jealous scoffs from the butthurt people.
they both high-fived grinning with delight. "you were amazing." he complimented her.
"i could say the same about you."
chaeyoung felt on the top of the world. a huge weight had just been lifted off her shoulders. nothing could get her spirits down today. she stood in a daze after the class ended while jaehyun was engaged in receiving compliments from his friends.
"oh my god chae! you were so good!" somebody squealed and hugged her before chaeyoung got the chance to see their face. the person broke the hug. it was park jihyo, a long time friend of chaeyoung's. she was beaming at her.
"thank you! ugh to be honest i was so freaking close to shitting myself. it's so nerve-wrecking to be singing in a class full of people good singers." chaeyoung let out a long sigh.
"i know right. but let's be honest, we're better than most of the people in here." jihyo winked confidently and this was exactly why chaeyoung liked the girl.
"also you didn't tell me you were seeing him." jihyo playfully wiggled her eyebrows in jaehyun's direction.
chaeyoung felt her cheeks turn red. oh please, not again. please don't betray me. she begged her cheeks though it was of no use.
"me? seeing him? hahaha never." she laughed forcefully hoping the other won't notice her face which was red as a tomato. "why would you even think that?"
"please don't tell you haven't noticed that he obviously kind of likes you." jihyo deadpanned looking chaeyoung right in the eye. "how could be so oblivious!" she face-palmed seeing the bewildered look on chaeyoung's face.
"today when you were singing, he looked at you and smiled." jihyo cooed. "and that is something you see only in kdramas."
chaeyoung didn't see what was the big deal about it. maybe he was smiling at her because she looked funny or maybe she had something on her face.
"jihyo come on let's go!" jihyo's friend hollered from the other end of the room.
"that's my cue to leave. see you around chae." with that jihyo left leaving chaeyoung alone with her thoughts.
JENNIE.
where are you
chaepmunk?
we're waiting
for you in the
cafeteria.
chaeyoung's phone chimed and she looked at the text jennie had sent her. chaeyoung had been so overwhelmed by everything that she hadn't noticed the fact that she was famished. she turned to leave when a voice called her.
"chaeyoung wait up!" she turned to see jaehyun running to catch up with her.
"so today was a good day." he said as they walked the hallway together.
"yes indeed." she nodded in agreement.
"i bet the whole class was low-key jealous of us."
"well, i never thought i would say this but i agree with you on that one." she didn't know where the sudden boost of self-esteem came from.
they were met with a surprise when they entered the cafeteria. jennie, jisoo, chaeyoung and lisa usually sat together but it was unusual to see the girls together with the guys - taeyong, johnny, mark, yuta, chittaphon and taeil. the group occupied two whole tables.
"woah."
"the groupchat just brought everyone closer i guess." chaeyoung said as they walked towards the table their friends where at while holding their trays filled with food.
"hey! we decided to sit together at lunch because it's much more fun." mark claimed cheerfully. "it's like a real life version of the groupchat."
"we saved you seats." taeyong motioned at the two empty seats beside jennie.
chaeyoung of course decided to take the one near jennie. she tried to pull out the chair while balancing her tray in one hand.
"don't worry, i got that." jaehyun pulled the chair out for her.
"thanks." chaeyoung said to him before sitting down.
"what. was. that?" yuta said. chaeyoung looked up from her food to see the group staring at her and jaehyun (mostly jaehyun).
"when the hell did jaehyun become such a gentleman?"
"i can't believe my eyes."
"who are you and what have you done with jung jaehyun?" johnny cried over-exaggerating every word.
"shut the fuck up and let me eat my food." jaehyun muttered before flipping the guys off and returned to eating his food while trying to hide his shy smile.
