Cathy's POV
As I travel through the forest with Darren I am met with frigid air and a sense of insecurity, I've never left my hometown before, or been away from Wynter for this long,
"Where are we going exactly?"
Darren's pace slows momentarily, roughly, and without much emotion he responds, "Westville."
"Like in town?"
"The outskirts."
The snow sparkles orange reflecting the sunset, I stare up into the sky, relishing it's warm glow, fearing the darkness that is soon to come.
"I'm scared Darren."
Darren scoffs at me, "you've always been such a baby."
I speed up slightly to match Darren's pace, I've heard that Westville is crawling with vampires.

The sun is well gone and the moon is in full luminescence when Darren comes to an abrupt stop, causing me to walk right into him.
"Were here."
I look around at the thick forest of trees surrounding us at every angle.
"I thought we were going to Westville?"
"This is Westville."
"What are we doing here?"
Darren turns to look at me, a look of malice painted on his face.
"Look Cathy, darling, this isn't personal, I've always liked you just fine."
"What's not personal Darren? you're scaring me."
Darren takes a step towards me, I step back, cornering myself against a large oak tree.

"It's like this, you're a very special human, your blood is beyond rare, and little Wynter somehow landed the job of protecting you, the problem is, he does such a damn fine job that people are talking about him taking my position as alpha, of course I can't let that happen, so if something were to happen to you. . . Like let's say you're left for dead in the forest and picked off by vampires, then I will remain as alpha and maybe one day even high elder."

Tears start to trickle down my face as I struggle to look into his Hazel eyes, the eyes of someone I once thought of as my big brother, the boy who I've always thought was courageous and trustworthy, the boy who was once my hero.
"It won't look good on you if I go missing on your watch." I manage to squeak out,
"Oh won't it? I already have a plan for that, we were ambushed, I did everything I could to try and protect you, but the vampires, were just to strong, there were so many of them!"
He laughs maniacally, reaching his hand out to twirl my auburn hair, I push him away, aggravated he grabs my wrist jerking me into his arms.
"Oh Cathy, you may be a nuisance, but a beautiful nuisance, maybe I'll play with you a little before I cripple you."
I try to push away from him, but he's to strong,I knee him hard, but it doesn't even phase him.
"You're starting to piss me off, lay in the snow on your back before I make you." He growls.

He throws me down, I try to squirm away, desperately trying to get on my feet.
"It's no use Cathy." His voice deepens, and I watch as his body transforms into a massive black wolf with bright red eyes.
He grabs me aggressively, clawing at my arms, warm blood seeps out of my coat, turning the snow around me crimson.
I feel his warm breath on my neck, the wounds on my arms numbing me, I feel paralyzed.
"This will be a lot of fun."
Darren turns back into a human, I feel him unzip my jacket, as I pass out from the excruciating pain.
