Aaliyah was nominated for 'Favourite Soul/R&B New Artist' at the 1995 American Music Awards, along with Warren G and All - 4 - One, but lost out to All - 4 - One. She presented the award alongside Clint Black for The Country New Artist Award, and Aaliyah asked him 'I'm being nominated for the New Artist for Soul/R&B Award and that's coming up pretty soon, can you give me some advice?', and he said 'Try to win.'
