R Kelly's mother Joanne passed away around the time Aaliyah was recording for Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, so when he was in the studio with her he would often cry or have breakdowns, and Aaliyah would be there to comfort him and help him through it because R Kelly didn't really have anyone else to talk to about his mum, so he found comfort in Aaliyah and they became best friends. This was all said by Aaliyah's cousin Jomo Hankerson.
