CHAPTER 1 - RED MOON

Dark red locks waved in the air, her piercing hazel eyes fierce as she stabbed her valyrian sword through the warlock.

Her cold gaze met the creature's eyes and for a while, it managed to let out a meaningful grin before disappearing into thin air. Invaders in the Island of Fire are very much rare that it led her to think that something unpleasant was coming.

Kitara Fang shook the thought away as she wiped the purple blood from her sword. She gazed throughout the field and saw no warlocks left, only the curious expressions written on the faces of her men.

Suddenly, an unusual sound, almost bewitching, echoed throughout the moonlit field. Kitara's brows furrowed, her eyes landed on the only tree that stood in the middle of the field. All of the warriors turned their attention to the Mother Tree with parted mouth, the source of the enchanting sound.

The Mother Tree was big enough to make a person look like an insect. Thousand of thin roots were cascaded down from its branches, making it look unusual. The warriors stood stunned as blue light glowed through its trunk, then snaked to every branch, further lluminating the moonlit field.

Kitara made her way through the crowd and faced the ancient tree. She placed her palm on the trunk. Her eyes widened when the part suddenly cracked. She quickly retrieved her hand and took a step back when the crack travelled up.

"Captain! Stay back", she heard them call out.

With another sound, the crack opened and released a blinding light making everyone squint their eyes. Kitara lowered her hand when the light subsided and found a woman. Her brown wavy hair ran down to her feet, kissing every part of her pale green skin. Her glowing eyes gazed down to the warriors before her.

The troop dropped to their knees to pay their respect, she was one the nature spirits.

"Rise children of the Old Phoenix...", the deity gestured her hand and the warriors stood from their curtsy. Kitara rose her head and met the spirit's gaze.

"Listen carefully, child", she paused.

"Not long, evil shall return. Men will die, nations will fall, and Thrandal shall waste. But in this darkness, fire shall burn, waves shall crash, the bravest and the strongest shall arise."

Kitara furrowed her eyebrows, "What do you mean?"

"I can only tell you this, but you shall find the answers on your own", the spirit stepped back and entered the crack once more. The glow began to lose its light and the crack slowly began to close.

"No, wait! ", the warrior called out and the spirit met her gaze once more.

"Believe in yourself, warrior", and with that, the crack closed and as if nothing happened.

Kitara was left puzzled at the spirit's words.

She felt a hand on her shoulder,
"What just happened?", Caspian Vasperth, one of the three captains and a childhood friend, who also happens to be the prince of the Fire Nation, emerged from behind her.

"They rarely ever talk to us and when they do, they leave us with something like that", she said.

"Don't think too much about it, Kit.", Jace Nephelé, another Captain, said as he placed a hand on her shoulder.

"I won't but I can't also just let something like that slip. What she said isn't something we can just ignore", Kitara sheathed her sword.

"Let's take the message to the King and let him decide, it's not ours to keep", Erina Paraskeve joined the three.
