CHAPTER 2 - OPPOSITE YET EQUAL

Almost a month has passed since the Red moon and tomorrow will be the Nation test. Kitara has not seen Nero again since that night. She has been too busy training for the upcoming events like tomorrow that she was only able to go back to the cliff once and he wasn't there.

She didn't care at all. It was the view that gave her a temporary moment of peace from her chaotic life. It was a place where she could forget about being a warrior and just be herself.

Good things don't last though.

Kitara turned fast and swiftly clashed her sword against Caspian's. Caspian was a fine warrior indeed, but he never won against Kitara. This was one of the things he admired about her. She was strong, independent, and determined. She's not one to give up once she sets a goal.

Caspian struck his sword towards her neck but Kitara was fast enough to block it with her own. They stared at each other's eyes and for the briefest moment Caspian was distracted, Kitara took advantage. She gripped his arm with her free hand and kicked the back part of his knee, making him drop to the ground. Kitara held Caspian's own sword against his neck making him laugh.

"It's not funny! What in the world was that?", Kitara remained in her position despite Caspian raising both his hands in defeat.

"Your eyes were too pretty", he laughed but Kitara wasn't amused. Instead, she dug the sword deeper into his neck making Caspian laugh once again. When she knew he wasn't going to stop, she released him. Caspian stood and Kitara returned his sword.

"You should know when to focus. Otherwise, you'd get yourself killed in a battle against a pretty girl", she mocked him.

"You're the only one who can distract me like that though", he gave her a playful grin. Kitara only cringed as she gave him an elbow to the ribs. Caspian released an exaggerated cry and faked a dying face.

Kitara again cringed before turning on her heels. Caspian laughed as he caught up to her.

"Get some sleep. We're gonna need your focus back for tomorrow's game", Caspian laughed at Kitara's words before turning back to enter his quarters. Despite being a Prince, Caspian chose to live normally. His parents respected this decision and let him be.

She stared at Caspian's back, a smile carved on her lips. Caspian gave her a wave before disappearing behind the door. The gesture made her smirk and shake her head before walking ahead. Kitara's quarters were amongst those that stood beside the lake. She was one of the many who lived alone, may it be because their parents died in battle or in missions, or because they chose a different path. For Kitara, it was both.

All the thirty chosen warriors for the flag war were now gathered around the portal. Kitara, being the strongest and smartest, was their Captain. The other captains, Caspian, Jace, and Rayde Lock, were under her commands.

"Remember everything we trained. Stay focused and for the first timers, do not let anything distract you. You can have fun and do whatever you want after the battle. We didn't win the last match, that happens and it's normal. But it's not an excuse for you to slack. Would you really disgrace the Fire Nation's reputation? I believe not. Fight like your life depends on it!", the warriors cheered at Kitara's speech. She smiled at them before disappearing in a pool of gigantic flames.

Seconds later, the flames subsided and they were now inside the stadium. The crowd of different nations screamed and cheered at the team's arrival. The Nature and Lunar warriors were already there and were standing across them.

Not long, a ball of floating water took form beside the Lunars and from it emerged the warriors of the Water Nation.

The four clans can be distinguished in battle by two attributes: the color of their hair and the tattoo they wear on their body. The Nature Tribe, known as the Amazons, has hair of different shades of brown, and green tattoos .The Water Tribe or the Sirens have shades of blue hair and blue tattoos. For the Moons, known as Lunars, very light hair ranging from grey to white and even in lavender. Their skin and eyes had pale colors and they only wore clothes same as the color of their hair. The Fire Clan, or the Phoenix, had hairs of different shades of red and similarly colored tattoos.
